Marriott Bonvoy® and MGM Rewards announced today that it’s now possible to transfer points between the two programs. This is the latest addition to the partnership between the two brands with members of both currently able to earn and redeem points for stays as well as receive some elite benefits.

Marriott Bonvoy® and MGM Rewards accounts need to first be linked. Once linked, members can easily transfer points between the two programs at a transfer ratio of 10:8, regardless of which account is supplying or receiving them (1,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points become 800 MGM Rewards points and vice versa). The maximum points allowed to be transferred per year is 30,000 (with a 1,000-point minimum). Points are only transferrable between accounts owned by the same person and can be made through either Marriott or MGM Rewards.

As a reminder, MGM Rewards members are given status matches at the following levels:

  • MGM Rewards Gold receives Marriott Bonvoy® Silver Elite
  • MGM Rewards Platinum receives Marriott Bonvoy® Gold Elite
  • MGM Rewards NOIR receives Marriott Bonvoy® Ambassador Elite

Marriott Bonvoy® members do not receive matched status in the MGM Rewards program.

Anthony’s Take: I don’t see a huge opportunity here, but this could be valuable if you want to combine points for a specific purpose. I would not speculatively transfer points either way.
