Marriott announced today that it’s planning to open a 16-tented suite safari camp under the Autograph Collection brand in Serengeti, Tanzania during Q3 2025. Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection will mark the brands first foray into what it describes as “experiential, nature-based travel.”
Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection is located near the Fort Ikoma gate of Serengeti National Park. The camp lies directly along the Great Migration route, where vast wildebeest, zebra, and antelope herds pass through between May and July each year. The surrounding area offers exposure to wildlife like lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and giraffes.
The resort will offer 16 tented suites, including a two-bedroom villa. Each suite will feature an outdoor deck, fire pit, and retractable roof for open-air stargazing. Amenities include a spa, fitness center, pool, and multiple dining outlets, such as “The Boma,” which is a communal restaurant inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings. Design inspiration comes from the surrounding landscape and local Ikoma culture. The camp will aim to incorporate sustainable practices that support conservation and minimize environmental impact.
Guests can anticipate activities like game drives, night safaris, walking safaris, hot air balloon flights, bush dining, and engagement with the local Ikoma tribe. No word has been released on the pricing, benefits, or award rates at this property.
Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International, said:
Mapito Safari Camp will mark a defining moment for Autograph Collection as we introduce the brand’s first safari experience in one of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife destinations. The Serengeti’s scale, beauty, and cultural heritage will make an unforgettable setting for a property that will embody the individuality and character that Autograph Collection is known for.”
Anthony’s Take: A safari is something that I have always wanted to explore, but unfortunately much of Africa (Tanzania included) criminalizes the LGBTQ+ community. It’s not worth the risk, but I hope someday attitudes and laws change.
