With a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas imminent including the release of hostages, several airlines have announced that they will restart flying to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV). Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, and Wizz Air are the first three to make news by scheduling flights back to Israel.

Starting February 1st, Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian will begin nonstop flights to Tel Aviv from Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Zurich Airport (ZRH), and Vienna International Airport (VIE). Wizz Air is restarting nonstop flights from a host of cities across Austria, Hungary, Italy and more this month.

As I wrote about the other day, Israeli airline, Arkia will also begin flying to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) nonstop from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) next month. This is already putting price pressure on El Al and beginning to reduce fares.

American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines have yet to make any announcements around the resumption of service. Delta has a partnership with El Al and United can route through multiple Star Alliance partners. We’ll see when word comes of the US carriers bringing back their nonstop flights.

Anthony’s Take: Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that a ceasefire looks like it is imminent. This is good news as the conflict has cost way too many innocent lives. We’ll see when the US carriers restart their flights to Tel Aviv.
