I’ve written about the gorgeous 100th anniversary liveries that Lufthansa is releasing this year. Now, there is something special to go along with them. Lufthansa is marking the occasion with two commemorative flights scheduled for April 6th. They will recreate historic routes from the airline’s earliest days and giving loyal customers the opportunity to take part in the milestone celebration.

The German flag carrier will operate the special flights from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) to Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) and Zurich Airport (ZRH). This follows the same routes flown by Lufthansa’s earliest aircraft a century ago. The anniversary flights will be operated using two of the airline’s newest long-haul aircraft: a Boeing 787-9 and an Airbus A350-900. Both aircraft will feature Lufthansa’s special 100th anniversary livery.

The commemorative flights mark the exact date when Lufthansa’s predecessor airline, Luft Hansa, launched its first commercial flights on April 6, 1926. On that day, a Fokker-Grulich F.II aircraft departed Berlin and flew to Zurich via stops in Halle, Erfurt, and Stuttgart. Around the same time, a Dornier Komet III aircraft began operating the Berlin to Cologne route with a stop in Magdeburg. One hundred years later, Lufthansa plans to retrace these historic routes with its modern aircraft. The Boeing 787-9 will operate the Berlin to Zurich flight, while the Airbus A350-900 will fly the route from Berlin to Cologne.

Lufthansa is offering early booking access for the anniversary flights to members of its HON Circle (the highest elite tier within the Miles & More loyalty program). Seats for the commemorative flights are limited and eligible members have been encouraged to secure tickets during the exclusive presale period before they are made available to a wider audience.

As mentioned, the special flights are part of Lufthansa’s broader celebration of its 100th anniversary, commemorating a century of aviation innovation and growth. Throughout 2026, the airline plans to highlight its history through special aircraft liveries, events, and experiences designed to connect its pioneering past with its modern fleet and global network.

Anthony’s Take: This is so cool. I wish I was in Germany. By recreating the routes of its earliest flights using its newest aircraft, Lufthansa aims to symbolically bridge the airline’s origins with its present-day operations as one of the world’s largest international carriers.
