I was connecting in Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) this week and finally had the chance to check out the second United Club℠ Fly that United Airlines is operating. This grab-and-go lounge opened in February and offers a selection of sandwiches, salads, snacks, beverages, and barista-made coffee.

Anthony’s Take: This United Club℠ Fly location opened in February. The lounge measures only 1,563 square feet and can seat 16 guests max. I liked that there was a barista there to make coffee orders customized as well as fresh squeezed orange juice. This is the perfect spot to grab snacks and even lunch while running for a connection. I hope United opens more in Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). I liked this location better than the one at Denver International Airport (DEN) (review here) largely because of the barista.

Seating

There is no seating in this lounge and only one table to have a quick snack while standing near the front. I did not take a picture as it was crowded around the table. The only other feature in the lounge is a departure board near the exit.

Overall Impression:

This is a great concept and one that I hope United continues to bring to other hubs and focus cities. I like that I can go in, grab a beverage, sandwich, or snack, as well as barista-made coffee at this location, and be on my way.

I love this Club Fly and probably will see a lot of it… half my United flying is on 50 seaters.

The food in this one at IAH is quite a bit better than DEN. It feels fresher, maybe due to packaging, or the type of food. Love the filled pastries. I spent about 10 minutes standing inside last time having a cup of coffee and charging my phone (between RJs going from LFT to LRD) and had to agree when two gentlemen standing next to me at the counter commented that “this is so much better than cheap-ass Delta’s grab and go.”
