While traveling home this morning, I got to go back to a United Club℠ that I have not been to in many years. It’s been so long that I think it was a Continental President’s Club the last time I visited it at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE). The lounge is located in the Main Terminal, Concourse C between Gates C14 and C16. My visit was short, but it served its purpose this morning.
Access
Access is granted for those with United Club℠ memberships, day passes from Chase co-branded credit cards or purchased for $59, Global Services® members, United passengers with Gold or higher status traveling internationally, international Business or First Class passengers traveling on a Star Alliance flight, and Star Alliance Gold members regardless of class flown. You can find more information about these lounges and their access rules here. The check-in desk is on the right side as you enter the lounge. It was staffed with two agents and I thought it would be awkward to take their photo, so I did not.
A desk for passenger assistance is straight ahead when you enter.
Anthony’s Take: United has not invested much in the design of this lounge. Similar to my experience with the Delta Sky Club® earlier this week at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) (review here), this lounge feels like it is stuck around 1998. The decor, lighting, wood paneling, and overall feel of the space is dated. I give United kudos for the food here as the breakfast spread was one of the most extensive I have seen in a United Club℠ and the employees were all really friendly throughout.
Bar
The bar takes up the back wall of the lounge. There is a variety of paid and complimentary beer, wine, and spirits here. The free offerings are pretty basic, but the paid selections are not too badly priced.
The coffee machine is on the bar.
Drip coffee and hot water for tea are found nearby.
Water and juice were found on one of the buffets.
Food
The food in this United Club℠ was pretty impressive. Breakfast was being served during my visit and there were multiple hot dishes, oatmeal, breads, pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, and more. This was one of the best breakfast assortments that I have seen United offer.
Omelettes (there was a lot of steam pouring out)
Toppings for the eggs
Bacon and potatoes
Oatmeal and toppings
Meats and cheeses
Fresh fruit
Hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and toppings
Snacks
Whole fresh fruit
English muffins and bagels along with a toaster for guest use
Muffins and danishes
There is even a gelato machine.
Seating & Decor
There is a good amount of seating in the lounge scattered throughout multiple rooms. There is also an auditorium area with a TV and multiple work booths (these do not have doors). The decor is dated and feels like a time capsule.
Workstation tables
An individual workstation
More seating
Tables for dining
The auditorium area had three rows of seating along with a big TV.
Seating near the entrance
Amenities
This United Club℠ offers free Wi-Fi, restrooms, departure boards, a family room (pictured above), and the food and beverages mentioned above.
Overall Impression:
While it’s not the most glamorous lounge, it gets the job done and the breakfast was quite plentiful. This lounge makes me think of (and miss) Continental Airlines.
