After our trip to Hong Kong and the Philippines, we spent a day in Taipei before heading home to the United States. We flew United Polaris® from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and with that were granted access to Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge. EVA Air offers several other lounges in Terminal 2, but this is the one that United sends its Business Class passengers. I could have probably fought my way into another lounge due to holding Star Alliance Gold status, but we did not have a lot of time and this served its purpose before the flight.

Access

You need to take an escalator or elevator up one level to the lounges. There are several clustered together and Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge is down a short hallway near Starbucks. Access is granted to First and Business Class passengers on Singapore Airlines and other Star Alliance airlines’ flights as well as those holding Star Alliance Gold status (plus one guest).

A desk to verify credentials is at the entry of the lounge.

Anthony’s Take: My husband was disappointed that there were no Western breakfast items. I was quite content with the dim sum and noodles I found there. This lounge is fairly basic, but it did offer a tasty buffet, showers, and plenty of places to sit and relax. I’d like to check out what some of EVA Air has to offer the next time I go through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), but this was fine before our United flight.

Seating & Decor

There was a good amount of seating in the lounge. Spaces for relaxing and working were available. It was pretty empty during our visit and we had our pick of places to sit. There really was no decor to speak of in the lounge, but it did overlook some of the airport.

Amenities

The lounge offered free Wi-Fi, showers (pictured above), restrooms, magazines, and the food and beverages mentioned above.

Overall Impression:

This lounge is fine for an outstation. Singapore Airlines offers a nice buffet, but don’t expect too much more in terms of amenities here. I’d return if I could not check out the EVA Air lounges on my next trip.

The EVA lounge is worse. Trust me. My wife and I left the EVA business class lounge to go to one where my Amex Platinum card got us in and the non-EVA lounge was notably better on both food and spaciousness although the Singapore lounge looks better yet. I’m not sure why TPE seems to have really good airlines but subpar lounges but that’s how it seems. I say this as a huge EVA fan.

Out of curiosity, why do you think you would have had to fight your way in to another lounge? Presumably you were flying business class and you’re *A Gold.
