In October 2023, I first wrote about LOT Polish Airlines opening a lounge in Terminal 5 at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) in late 2024. It has officially opened today, December 19th. This will be the Star Alliance carrier’s first lounge in the United States and Chicago makes sense as the airline’s largest outstation.
Chicago is a key destination in the United States for LOT Polish with a heavy concentration of Polish-Americans there. LOT offers flights between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and both Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) and John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice (KRK).
The new lounge measures around 6,641 square feet and was designed with Polish touches such as amber. The space seats 165 passengers and provides great views of the airport apron and offers three zones: relaxation, work, and catering (dining). The work zone offers work spaces and charging stations. In what LOT calls the catering zone, passengers can dine on a range of food and beverages including some Polish products. The relaxation zone is quiet, darkened, and separated from the other areas for those passengers looking to relax. The lounge offers a full buffet, bar, restrooms, and shower suites.
The lounge is open to LOT Polish Business Class passengers as well as Star Alliance Gold members. Access is granted up to four hours in advance of a flight (with the exception of connecting flights). It’s a welcome addition for Star Alliance members as the current Swissport Lounge (review here) is pretty bad. Delta and SkyTeam flyers have become spoiled with the gorgeous Sky Club® in Terminal 5 (full review here) and recently the addition of the SAS Lounge (review here) after it switched alliances earlier this year.
Anthony’s Take: I look forward to checking out this new lounge. LOT has offered an okay Business Class in the past, but looks like it’s stepping up its game with an announcement around new Business Class seats for its 787s made last year. I can’t wait to check it out.
