LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B was partially evacuated around 6:29 AM when a suspicious package was found in a non-public area. Passengers that had not yet been through security screening were told to leave the airport and made to wait outside. Those already airside were allowed to remain there.
DUE TO POLICE ACTIVITY AT TERMINAL B FLIGHTS MAY BE DISRUPTED
— LaGuardia Airport (@LGAairport) November 9, 2024
Terminal B is home to Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines. All of the carriers saw flight disruptions as an all clear was not given until after 8:00 AM. No further word was released as to what was inside the package or who left it there. The New York Post interviewed passenger, Robert Baston. He told the news outlet:
I was very close to the front. I started seeing TSA agents telling everyone to stop screening. One agent was speaking on the radio. After that they told everyone to evacuate the terminal. Everyone was outside to the passenger drop off area…The TSA agents, they haven’t really told us anything.”
Anthony’s Take: It’s good that this was a false alarm and that nothing serious resulted from the suspicious package. Operations are returning to normal at the airport.
