KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, simply known KLM, is the flag carrier of the Netherlands and a member of SkyTeam. It will launch its 21st US destination in October with flights to Portland International Airport (PDX).

On October 27th, KLM will begin 3x to 5x weekly service (it increases in the summer) between Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) and Portland International Airport (PDX) with a Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This plane offers 30 Business Class, 21 Premium Economy, and 224 Economy Class seats.

Delta, Air France-KLM, and Virgin Atlantic, have a transatlantic joint venture. This means that they share profits on select routes and work together on network planning and other initiatives. This route has been operated by Delta Air Lines for the past 15 years. It will stop flying this route and with that end, Delta will no longer offer any longhaul flights from Portland International Airport (PDX). Delta used to also fly to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT). This makes sense as it does operate a hub at nearby Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).

Anthony’s Take: SkyTeam loyalists will still have an option out of Portland with this shift from Delta to KLM. I have flown KLM many times and love the service and Delft Houses that are handed out to Business Class passengers.
