KLM flight KL685 from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) to Mexico City International Airport (MEX) was forced to divert to Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) when the stench of 100 pigs in the cargo hold resulted in the aircraft needing a stop for fresh air.
The captain described the porkers as “obnoxious cargo” and was allowed to land the Boeing 787-9 in Bermuda. Around 260 passengers and crew as well as the 100 pigs were accommodated on the island overnight with the flight rescheduled for yesterday evening. The pigs were offloaded and housed in a secure location under the care of a veterinarian according to a government spokesperson.
Anthony’s Take: I’ve dealt with some foul odors on many flights, but never any caused by actual pigs. I guess the passengers will now have a story to share and there are worse places to divert to than the sunny island of Bermuda.

I just brought my dog from Europe to the USA on KLM last week. KLM is the only airline allowing pets to travel in cargo right now.
