Just Stop Oil protesters attempted to block the lines leading to departures at London Gatwick Airport (LGW) today. Passengers were not amused and chose to step over and in some cases step on them as they attempted to get to their gates.

It’s funny to see UK passengers politely step around these protestors. I don’t think that we’d see this quite as calm if this happened at an airport in the United States. The seven protestors causing this blockage in the Southern Terminal should be arrested. Protesters are demanding that governments around the globe eliminate the use of oil, gas, and coal by 2030 at the latest. The sentiment is fine, but the execution is unfair to the passengers who are just trying to get to their business, vacation, or other obligations. Protestors use lock-on devices to adhere themselves to the floor. These cannot simply be pulled away and need to be removed by teams of specialists.

Anthony’s Take: This should not be celebrated as the people who are trying to make their flights are being inconvenienced here. I’m glad that people pushed around them as I know I would if I were there.

These are mentally ill people who are a danger to themselves and others. There acts are violence disguised as non-violence, and should treated accordingly . . . with violence if necessary.

My suitcase would only be able to be lifted about a foot off the ground and would impact any obstructions. Same with my leg with 24 pieces of metal in it… easy to lose footing and step on something.

I don’t understand how these people can justify these types of activities since all they do is impact everyday normal people trying to make their business or leisure flights and do NOTHING against the businesses they seem to think they are protesting against. It’s like when protesters close ramps to airports or other places. Only a warped mind would think these types of things are going to get people to sympathize with their causes.
