Tulum’s new airport, Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO), opened on December 1st. With this new airport, US carriers have been busy adding service to take advantage of demand for Tulum travel this spring. Delta Air Lines was first out of the gate (more here), Spirit Airlines quickly followed and then postponed the route before it flew there (more here), American Airlines (more here) and United Airlines (more here) also added new flights. As I wrote about in December, JetBlue was the fifth US airline to announce that it would also fly to Tulum’s new airport and those flights began today.
JetBlue now offers daily, nonstop flights from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) using Airbus A320 aircraft with 150 Economy Class seats. This is the fourth Mexican destination served by JetBlue.
Flights to Cancun International Airport (CUN) have operated for the past 17 years. It now flies there from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Orlando International Airport (MCO), and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).
JetBlue also flies to both Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) and Puerto Vallarta’s Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
Tulum is located on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula and known for its beaches and preserved Mayan ruins. The coastal area also offers mangroves and cenotes (natural limestone sinkholes) for visitors to explore.
David Jehn, JetBlue’s Vice President of Network Planning and Airline Partnerships, said:
As the only airline with direct service from New York’s JFK to Tulum, we are thrilled to offer our customers our award-winning service, low fares, and another option when traveling to the Mexican Caribbean. JetBlue began service to Mexico more than 17 years ago with flights from New York to Cancun and we’re proud to expand our footprint in Mexico.”
Anthony’s Take: I found some great Business Class fares from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) on both United and Delta Air Lines. I’ll be checking out Tulum in September. Congrats to JetBlue on this exciting addition to its route network.
