JetBlue Airways is celebrating its 25th birthday this month with a look back at how it changed the commercial airline space in 2000 along with a fare sale that has some one-way fares starting at only $25.

As JetBlue celebrates through today, sale routes include:

  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Savannah International Airport (SAV)
  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Charleston International Airport (CHS)
  • New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Nashville International Airport (BNA)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Manchester–Boston Regional Airport (MHT)

All fares can be found here.

JetBlue’s first flight was on February 11, 2000. New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) was its first route and it still carries the flight number 1. It began with only 10 destinations and has grown into a global airline that now serves more than 100 across 31 countries on three continents.

The carrier has always straddled the line of low-cost and full-service carrier with fares for all passengers and amenities that often led the way. JetBlue offered the industry’s first all-leather seating, first seatback TVs with live entertainment, the first free high-speed Wi-Fi on every aircraft, and free name-brand snacks.

JetBlue Mint

In 2014, JetBlue entered the premium market with the debut of Mint (Business Class) and has since expanded this offering to include flights to the Caribbean, Canada, and Europe (with more expected in 2026 when a new domestic First Class rolls out).

JetBlue has been making lots of changes as its business evolves. Passengers have the following to look forward to as JetBlue enters its next phase:

  • More European Destinations: JetBlue is launching seasonal routes from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) and Edinburgh Airport (EDI) starting this May.
  • Airport Lounges: JetBlue will open its first-ever lounges at Terminal 5 in New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) later this year and in Terminal C at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) shortly after.
  • First-Class: Domestic First-Class option is coming in 2026.
  • EvenMore®JetBlue’s extra legroom seats in the front of the aircraft are now bundled with free alcoholic beverages, a premium snack, dedicated overhead bin space, early boarding, and priority security.
  • A220 Transition: This year, JetBlue will retire its final E190 aircraft and transition to the modern Airbus A220 aircraft.

Joanna Geraghty, JetBlue’s Chief Executive Officer, said:

As we celebrate 25 groundbreaking years of JetBlue, I’m filled with gratitude and pride for the remarkable journey we’ve taken together. Our mission of bringing humanity back to air travel has set us apart, and our amazing crewmembers are redefining what it means to truly care for our customers and each other.

Building a unique culture focused on caring for the crewmembers was always core to the JetBlue model, and this new livery speaks to exactly that. It’s truly awe-inspiring to think about the countless individuals, many working behind the scenes, who make our airline so special. Painting it on the side of a plane lets everyone in on the secret of JetBlue’s success—our crewmembers.”

Customers, crew, and invited guests on yesterday’s birthday flight 1 were treated to surprises and giveaways at JetBlue’s Terminal 5. The celebrations kicked off earlier yesterday morning at Buffalo International Airport (BUF) to commemorate the airline’s first crewmember flight, which took off bound for New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with guests and dignitaries on the same day in 2000.

JetBlue Livery

JetBlue also debuted its special BlueUnity livery, in recognition of the airline’s more than 23,000 crewmembers, on yesterdays flight 1. The Airbus A321 looks pretty spiffy in its new paint job.

Anthony’s Take: I have yet to fly Mint and need to remedy that soon. Happy 25th Birthday, JetBlue! I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds.
