JetBlue continues to tweak its route network and cut unprofitable routes while adding others as it looks to improve its ailing business. Last month, it announced that it was leaving San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) entirely and dropping its Mint (Business Class) offering on flights to/from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Today, it added 17 new routes (including five new cities) from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and other New York-area airports as it looks to further strengthen its East Coast presence.

Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)

With these new routes, JetBlue will offer 77 nonstop destinations from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), which is more than any other airline. New routes include:

  • Edinburgh Airport (EDI) (1x daily during the summer; starts on May 22nd)
  • Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) (1x daily during the summer; starts on June 26th)
  • Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) (1x daily during the summer; starts on April 30th)
  • Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) (1x daily during the summer; starts on May 22nd)
  • Norfolk International Airport (ORF) (1x daily during the summer; starts on April 30th)
  • Traverse City’s Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) (3x weekly during the summer; starts on June 5th)
  • Wilmington International Airport (ILM) (1x daily during the summer; starts on April 30th)

New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)

As New York’s Hometown Airline®, JetBlue is adding new and bringing back some routes across the New York metropolitan area. Seven of these will be coming to New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). These include:

  • Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) (1x daily during the summer; starts on April 30th)
  • Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) (1x daily year-round; starts on April 30th)
  • Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) (1x daily year-round; starts on April 30th)
  • Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) (1x daily year-round; starts on April 30th)
  • Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) (1x daily year-round; starts on April 30th)

  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) (1x daily year-round; starts on March 30th)

Other New York Airports

JetBlue will expand its offerings from United’s Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) hub with two routes and add one additional from New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA). These include:

  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to/from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) (3x daily during the summer; starts on April 30th)
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to/from Santo Domingo’s Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) (1x to 2x daily this summer; starts on June 12th)
  • New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to/from Tampa International Airport (TPA) (2x daily year-round; starts on April 30th)

Service between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will feature JetBlue’s Mint® service with fully lie-flat private suites.

Daniel Shurz, JetBlue’s Head of Revenue, Network, and Enterprise Planning, said:

We continue to focus on growing our leisure network in Boston by introducing more incredible new summer seasonal markets. We know customers across New England love taking advantage of JetBlue’s great service and competitive fares for their summer vacations, and we think each of these will be extremely popular for our loyal customers in the region. With these new destinations and routes, JetBlue is introducing even more travelers to our industry-leading service, strengthening our position in New York and as the East Coast’s leisure airline. We’re excited to build on our momentum, offering customers across the Northeast and beyond even more travel opportunities.”

Anthony’s Take: JetBlue is adding lots of new routes this summer. This should serve it well as it plays to its strengths in New York and Boston.

In January 2024 Jetblue ended DCA – JFK.
Jetblue retreated from EWR and now is going to re add some of those flights that they had already cancelled.
