JetBlue has announced a the addition of nonstop service between Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). This restores a key connection for JetBlue between two of the nation’s largest cities (with the one in Texas being a United Airlines hub).

The new route will operate 2x daily beginning May 21st. Tickets are now available for purchase through JetBlue’s website and mobile app. The new route will complement JetBlue’s existing 1x daily nonstop route between Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). With the addition of these flights, Houston travelers will gain improved access to JetBlue and United’s broader networks, including destinations throughout the East Coast, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Dave Jehn, Vice President of Network Planning and Airline Partnerships at JetBlue, said:

Houston is an important destination for many travelers, and we’re pleased to reintroduce nonstop service between JFK and Houston, giving our customers a convenient connection between these two major metropolitan areas. With twice-daily flights, we’re offering a schedule that works well for same-day trips, longer stays, and easy connections across our network.”

Passengers flying on this route can expect JetBlue’s well-known inflight amenities, including free Fly-Fi® Wi-Fi, seatback entertainment at every seat, and complimentary snacks and beverages. I’ve written a good amount about the evolving partnership between JetBlue and United Airlines known as Blue Sky. Adding flights to United’s hubs seems like a good next step. United currently flies between New York and Houston up to 17x daily (when counting flights from both Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA).

Anthony’s Take: I still contend that United and JetBlue will merge. Until then, the partnership continues to evolve and JetBlue adding flights to Houston seems more than a coincidence.
