JetBlue Airways announced today that it is bringing an Airbus A320 decked out with the characters from Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. to the skies. The aircraft’s livery is painted with Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, Bowser, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi. Inside, passengers will be greeted by Mario and friends on the welcome screen of the seatback entertainment screens.

The aircraft dubbed “JetBlue’s Cloudtop Cruiser” will begin service this month. JetBlue is no stranger to custom liveries and has partnered with everyone from the Boston Red Sox to NBC’s Peacock and FDNY painted on its planes.

I love custom liveries and was so happy that I got to fly on United’s Star Wars plane a few years ago. ANA, Alaska Airlines, and LATAM also have flown planes adorned with images from the galaxy far, far away. Alaska Airlines also has several Disney-themed aircraft, ANA offers Pokémon, and Eve Air takes it to another level with its Hello Kitty Jets (even the toilet paper is on theme). I hope to see the Cloudtop Cruiser in person as the livery looks so cool.

Anthony’s Take: Themed liveries are a fun way to jazz up aircraft exteriors. These partnerships drive revenue, loyalty, and add an extra element to the trip.
