Around 10:17 AM this morning, Delta Air Lines flight DL 1921 was set to depart for Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) and was being deiced. Japan Airlines Flight JL 68 had just arrived from Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) and was taxiing to its gate. Something was miscalculated and the collision occurred.

Japan Airlines released the following statement:

While in sequence for deicing, the tail of a Delta 737 aircraft reportedly made contact with a wing tip of another airline’s aircraft. There are no reports of injuries of crew or customers on the flight, and we apologize for the experience and delay in travels.”

All passengers on both planes were deplaned and the aircraft were taken out of service. No injuries were reported from the passengers or crew on either flight.

Anthony’s Take: Thankfully, there were no injuries. This is a costly mistake and will likely take some time to get these planes inspected, repaired, and back in the air.
