Tampa International Airport (TPA) is my home airport every winter. It’s a quick drive, easy to navigate, and a pleasure to fly to and from. I’m not the only one who feels this way as the airport recently was one of the top picks of J.D. Power’s “North American Airport Satisfaction Study.”
The studies results were released this week and they rank the best airports in the United States and Canada in terms of passenger experience. Seven criteria are considered:
- Ease of travel through airport
- Level of trust with airport
- Terminal facilities
- Airport staff
- Departure/to airport experience
- Food, beverage and retail
- Arrival/from airport experience
Airports are divided into three categories by passenger volume: medium airports (4.5M to 9.9M passengers per year), large airports (10M-32.9M passengers per year), and mega airports (33M + passengers per year).
Orange County’s John Wayne Airport (SNA) ranks highest among large airports, with a score of 687. Tampa International Airport (TPA) (685) ranks second and Kansas City International Airport (MCI) (683) ranks third.
This is the 19th year that the study was conducted and 26,290 travelers completed it. It covers both departure and arrival experiences (including connecting airports) during the past 30 days. In my experience, Tampa International Airport (TPA) is easy to navigate, is reliable, and is about to get even better when the new Terminal D opens in 2028.
Anthony’s Take: I’ve spent most of my travel days originating in Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). It’s a breath of fresh air to travel to and from Tampa International Airport (TPA). I love just about everything there.
