A work event brought me to Los Angeles a few weeks back. It had been years since I stayed at the W Los Angeles – West Beverly Hills and I was looking forward to seeing if the hotel was as good as I remembered. The hotel opened as the W Los Angeles – Westwood in 1999 and was rebranded as the W Los Angeles – West Beverly Hills in 2015. I was last there shortly after the rebrand. I’m pleased to say that the hotel was as good as I remembered with a great staff, elite recognition, and amenities.
Anthony’s Take: The hotel proactively upgraded me to a Fabulous Suite, 2 Bedroom Suite and provided me with a delicious chocolate cake welcome amenity. The rate that I booked included a $100 food and beverage credit. I used that for a late dinner in the suite. I was only on the property for a very short time and did not get to enjoy the pool, breakfast, or any of the other amenities. I’ll definitely be returning.
Booking
I booked a 1 King Bed, Wonderful Studio on a Marriott Luminous rate. It was $420 per night including taxes and fees. The rate included a $100 credit to use at the hotel, breakfast for two, and a welcome amenity. I am a travel advisor and can book these rates that are not available without an agent. The cost was the same as if I had booked a “Member Rate Flexible,” but it included some nice additional perks. Reach out to me at anthony.losanno@fora.travel for assistance booking this hotel and many others. Marriott did away with award charts a few years ago, but redemptions can be had for between 48,000 and 81,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I took an Uber Comfort from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to the hotel and back the next day to head home. The ride there took around 25 minutes (it’s around 12.9 miles) and cost $68. Departing, the ride was double the time and cost $92.
Location
The hotel is located steps away from UCLA, the Medical Center, and all of the famous shopping on Rodeo Drive.
I love the greenery that covers the outside of the building.
Inside, there are several seating areas flanking the entrance doors.
More seating was tucked in various pockets around the lobby.
Tables for working are to the right of reception.
Check-In
I arrived at the hotel around 2:30 PM. My suite was ready, which I appreciated. I was upgraded based on my status and the rate I booked according to the agent. I was asked if I needed a late checkout and I declined as I was out the door the next morning around 6:30 AM. The agent explained the benefits afforded to me through booking the Marriott Luminous rate. Unfortunately, I was not going to enjoy the breakfast based on needing to get out of the hotel early in the morning. I chose points as my welcome amenity for being Titanium Elite and had my keys printed a moment later.
The guest elevators are on the back wall to the left of reception.
The elevator lobby and hallways were well maintained and clean. I liked the oversized art at the end of each hall.
Fabulous Suite, 2 Bedroom Suite (1507)
There are 297 rooms and suites at the hotel.
The suite opened with some art and a small foyer.
A mini bar area was to the right. This included a Keurig, K cups, bottled water, condiments, as well as lots of snacks and beverages for sale.
The refrigerator was in the cabinet below. It had more beverages for sale as well as some space for guest use.
The desk was next to the mini bar. It had two chairs and was a good spot to work and dine.
A couch and several tables were across from the desk.
A TV was across from the couch.
The bathroom was to the right. It was a good size with a large vanity, toilet, and glassed-in shower.
The vanity had one sink and tons of counter space.
Bottles of skin regimen toiletries were on the sink.
A bar of soap was also found there.
A small set of shelves held towels, the blow dryer, and extra toilet paper.
The toilet was not too close to the vanity.
The shower was spacious and offered good water pressure and temperature.
Bottles of MOMO brand toiletries were found here.
Past the bathroom, there were two bedrooms. The master bedroom offered a king-sized bed, night tables, a chair, and several lamps.
The TV was mounted across from the bed.
The closet held a robe, iron, ironing board, safe, and luggage rack.
A chair was near the windows.
A full-length mirror was on the opposite wall near the bed.
The second bedroom had a Murphy Bed that was already set up. It was just me, so this was not used at all.
This room also held two chairs.
A dresser and TV filled the wall across from the bed.
The suite offered nice views of the city and the pool below.
It was supposed to be there when I arrived, but an apologetic employee brought a delicious welcome amenity up when I returned from my event.
In-Room Dining
As mentioned above, I had a $100 credit to use for food and beverage. I ended up ordering the Tuna Tartare and a ginger ale. In-room dining is handled by STK (which is onsite near the pool). This cost around $65 with tax, tip, and fees. I ate this along with some of my chocolate cake.
Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel has a pool, a fitness center, the signature W Living Room Bar, STK Steakhouse, a business center, the W Terrace, and the seating pictured above.
The pool offered lots of seating, umbrellas, and more.
As mentioned, STK is near the pool.
The W Terrace was locked. I thought it was a pet relief area at first.
More seating was near the fitness center and meeting space.
The fitness center is partially outside with the rest of the equipment indoors.
It was not huge, but had everything you’d need. I was happy to see a Peloton Bike.
Towels and water were provided for guests.
It’s easy to walk by the door if you don’t pay attention.
The business center is also in the lobby with computers and a printer for guest use.
Water was provided throughout the day.
This switched to coffee in the morning.
The Living Room Bar was quiet during the day and offered multiple places to relax or work in peace.
The bar itself also had some funky decor.
Record players were also on display in the lobby. These used to be in-room amenities, but that seems to have changed.
One thing that I loved about this hotel was all of the modern art. It was just about everywhere you looked (including a cool installation in the center of the lobby).
Overall Impression:
The hotel and the suite were comfortable, modern, and elegant. Amenities are great and I wish I had more time to enjoy them. The elite recognition and wonderful art collection made the hotel even more enjoyable.
