After spending some time in Corfu, Greece, we took the ferry to Sarandë, Albania. We spent three nights at the Vila Kalcuni Luxury Resort and found it the perfect spot for some relaxation and to easily reach everything we would like to do there. The hotel was comfortable, clean, and our suite offered a gorgeous view.
Anthony’s Take: We enjoyed our time at the Vila Kalcuni Luxury Resort. The air conditioning worked great (it was 95 degrees while we were there), the suite was clean and comfortable, and we loved the huge balcony overlooking the pool and beach. The hotel is in walking distance of the ferry and close to many restaurants and the waterfront.
Booking
I booked a Superior Suite, Sea View on Hotels.com. The rate was $211 per night, which was reasonable for the suite. The property is not part of any loyalty program and there were no Hilton, Hyatt, or Marriott hotels in Sarandë. Breakfast was included in the rate.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
We walked from the ferry terminal to the hotel. It’s a short four-minute walk to the hotel.
Location
The hotel is located off of the main road. Parking is free if you have a car. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, stores, supermarkets, and more just steps from the hotel. There is a long driveway to walk up and down as well as a stairwell that leads to a small garden. The parking lot is in front and the pool is on the left side. The beach is in front of the hotel.
Check-in
We arrived around 2:00 PM and our suite was ready. The agent at the desk explained that the breakfast was in the building outside of the lobby. We were given one key and told that we could not have another. If we lost the key, there was a €10 fee to replace it.
The lobby is small with some seating. We never saw anyone in it during our stay.
The elevator is at the end of the hall.
The hallways were clean and well maintained.
Superior Suite, Sea View (306)
Vila Kalcuni Luxury Resort has 23 rooms and suites.
The suite opens into a living area with the bathroom to the left. It’s a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi tub, sink, glassed-in shower, toilet, and bidet.
The shower was large with good water pressure and temperature.
Some toiletries and towels were on a table next to the tub.
The toiletries were Relax brand and not great quality.
The toilet and bidet were in a separate room.
The vanity had plenty of counter space.
It has been a long time since I have seen a blowdryer like this one.
A closet was located across from the bathroom. It held extra pillows, a safe, and some hangers.
The suite was a large, open space with a living area and bedroom. It contained a couch, table, king-sized bed, and two nightstands.
The couch was comfortable and I did some work lounging there.
A desk and TV were located across from the bed on the far wall.
A refrigerator was located beneath the TV. It was empty for guest use.
Some shelves near the bedroom area held a coffeemaker and tea.
Coffee pods and condiments were on one shelf.
Glasses and coffee cups were on another shelf.
A tea kettle was on a small table nearby.
The highlight of the room was this beautiful balcony with an amazing sea view.
The balcony had a small table and two chairs.
Breakfast
As mentioned above, breakfast was included in the rate. It was a small buffet with limited choices. It was rather picked over, but offered some hot dishes, fruit, yogurt, breads, cereal, and more. The quality was not great and we only had breakfast here one of the three days as we were not satisfied with it.
Coffee, beans, corn, and some sort of spread.
Breads and condiments
Cereal, rice pudding, and yogurt
More bread
Hot items included eggs, sausage, and bacon. We did not try any of this as it looked rather unappealing.
Meat and cheeses
The juice was pretty watered down.
Beverages for sale
Drip coffee was included, but espresso was an upcharge.
We ordered a latte and cappuccino. These cost $6 and were added to our bill.
Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel offers the lobby seating above, a pool, a beach, and the restaurant above. We spent most of our time at the pool and did not try out the beach.
The pool was never too crowded and we found chairs easily.
Showers near the pool attracted lots of people who were not guests and walked in from the beach. They used the restrooms and one couple stripped their young children down and bathed them here.
Overall Impression:
The hotel has a nice pool, comfortable accommodations, and friendly staff. The breakfast is not great and the beach is crowded. The hotel is perfectly located for exploring Sarandë and close to many restaurants, shops, and more.
