I had a work dinner in Dallas and the Thompson Dallas was just a half mile from the restaurant. This hotel has long been on my list after reading positive reviews from other bloggers. I’m happy to say that the property is gorgeous, Globalists are treated well, and it’s a luxe place to call home while visiting Dallas.

Anthony’s Take: I was proactively upgraded to a beautiful National Suite. It was spacious, well designed, and a place that I thoroughly enjoyed working and relaxing in during my stay. While I did not have the chance to use them, the Thompson Dallas offers impressive gym, pool, and spa facilities, which makes this an ideal hotel for vacationers as well as those on business trips.

Thompson Booking

Booking

I booked a 1 King Bed room through Hyatt Privé for $346 per night plus taxes and fees. It was the same rate as booking a “Members Advance Purchase” rate on Hyatt.com, but gave me the flexibility of being able to cancel. If you want to get the benefits offered through Hyatt Privé (possible upgrades, a $100 property credit, free breakfast for two, a welcome gift, and more), I can help with reservations. Just email me at anthony.losanno@fora.travel. This hotel falls in the Category 6 redemption bucket, which means that a standard room will cost between 21,000 and 29,000 points.

Thompson Dallas Destination Fee

The hotel charges a daily destination fee of $30 plus tax. This was waived for me as a Globalist (after having to ask twice) and will be for anyone on a points redemption stay. It includes everything above, which isn’t much.

Transportation to/from the Hotel

I took an Uber Comfort from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to the hotel. It cost $69 and took about 31 minutes to drive the approximately 19.4 miles with light traffic. When I left the hotel to head back to the airport, I also took an Uber Comfort. It cost $55 and the ride was about the same amount of time.

Location

The hotel is located in downtown Dallas. It’s convenient to get to many restaurants, shops, and attractions from this property.

The lobby is incredible. It feels like a museum and the hotel offers self-guided art tours.

There is tons of seating spread throughout the massive space as well as all sorts of interesting art.

Everywhere I looked, something caught my eye.

Thompson Dallas Upgrade

I saw when I completed the online check-in that I had been upgraded.

Check-in

I arrived around 2:00 PM and my room was ready. The agent that assisted me was friendly and explained the breakfast benefit that my Globalist status provided at the hotel. Breakfast is served in the hotel’s lobby restaurant called Little Daisy. She offered me late checkout (which I did not need) and told me that I had been upgraded to a National Suite. She handed me two letters (one that outlined the benefits as a Globalist and the second that explained what Hyatt Privé provided). She then printed my keys, escorted me to the elevator, and I was on my way.

Thompson Dallas 48

Hyatt Privé offered the benefits above.

Thompson Dallas 8

I loved the flowers on the reception desk.

Thompson Dallas 12

This cool piece of art was to the right.

Thompson Dallas 9

Thompson Dallas 10

The elevators are located to the left of reception. There are two sets (one for the hotel and one for the National Residences that share the building).

Thompson Dallas 11

Water was available near the elevators.

Thompson Dallas 13

Thompson Dallas 17

A second lobby is through the other side of the elevator doors. This also had tons of seating.

The lobby just looks so comfortable and well designed.

The elevator lobby and hallways on my floor were clean and in good repair.

Thompson Dallas 21

National Suite (1411)

There are 219 guest rooms including 52 suites at the Thompson Dallas.

Thompson Dallas 22

The National Suite opened with a half bath on the left. It held a toilet and sink.

Thompson Dallas 23

Thompson Dallas 24

The vanity offered lots of counter space.

Thompson Dallas 25

A bar of D.S. & Durga bar soap and a bottle of lotion were on the counter.

Thompson Dallas 26

The toilet also was well spaced in the large half bath.

Thompson Dallas 27

The living room was straight ahead. It held a couch, ottoman, table, and entertainment center with a TV.

Thompson Dallas 28

The couch was comfortable and I liked the cow-print pillow.

Thompson Dallas 29

A welcome amenity was on the table.

Thompson Dallas 30

The entertainment center had a TV mounted to it along with the minibar.

Thompson Dallas 31

There were all sorts of snacks and alcoholic beverages for sale.

Thompson Dallas 32

An ice bucket was also below.

Thompson Dallas 33

The mini fridge was sensored and had no extra space.

Thompson Dallas 34

There was also an illy coffeemaker, coffee, condiments, and cups here.

Thompson Dallas 35

Next to the living room was a dining room.

Thompson Dallas 36

It offered a table with five chairs and another TV. I spent some time working here.

Thompson Dallas 37

A full-size mirror was also in this room.

Thompson Dallas 38

The bedroom was the next room over. It held a king-sized bed, nightstands, a dresser, a third TV, and more Texas-themed decor.

Thompson Dallas 39

The TV was mounted across from the bed.

Thompson Dallas 50

Thompson Dallas 51

The suite offered nice views of downtown.

Thompson Dallas 40

A large, walk-in closet was to the left. It had robes (and surprisingly did not offer an iron and ironing board).

Thompson Dallas 41

A garment steamer was in the closet.

Thompson Dallas 42

The safe was also found here.

Thompson Dallas 43

The master bathroom was outside of the closet. It was also a large space. A vanity with a single sink was straight ahead.

Thompson Dallas 44

Another bar of D.S. & Durga bar soap and a second bottle of lotion were on the counter.

Thompson Dallas 45

The shower was to the left. Water pressure was good, but it did not get especially warm.

Thompson Dallas 46

D.S. & Durga shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were in the shower.

Thompson Dallas 47

The toilet was to the left in a partitioned area (with a glass door for some unknown reason as it provided no privacy).

Thompson Dallas 49

Lunch

I used $48 of my Hyatt Privé credit to order lunch. The Rotisserie Chicken Caprese Sandwich was delicious.

Public Areas & Amenities

The hotel offers all of the seating pictured above as well as a fitness center, outdoor pool, spa, store selling apparel and gifts, an art museum, and four dining establishments. The hotel provides details around the art found throughout the property (pictured above).

Thompson Dallas 53

Thompson Dallas 54

The outdoor pool is a nice space to relax.

Thompson Dallas 55

It had tons of unused lounge chairs.

Thompson Dallas 56

Towels were provided.

Thompson Dallas 57

Thompson Dallas 58

I liked the gardens around these sitting areas on the ninth floor (this same floor houses the pool, spa, retail, one of the restaurants, and the fitness center).

Thompson Dallas 59

Thompson Dallas 60

The fitness center is quite large and was busy with some bros that were very into their workouts. I shot these photos around them.

Thompson Dallas 61

The spa is around the corner.

Thompson Dallas 62

A retail shop is next door along with the offices for the residences.

Thompson Dallas 63

The Little Daisy restaurant (where breakfast is served) is down the hall. I did not have time to try out the breakfast.

Overall Impression:

I had a nice stay at the Thompson Dallas until the end. The Destination Fee and charge that should have been covered under my Hyatt Privé rate were not removed from the folio. I went to the front desk and the agent there was clueless. She said she could not adjust folios and that no one on property could help. There was no manager on duty and that I should call back in 90 minutes. I told her that was not ideal and she just shrugged. She handed me a business card and rolled her eyes. I called back and was told the manager was in a meeting. About 30 minutes later I received an apology text and the folio was corrected. Not a huge deal, but this is a service flaw that needs to be fixed. Staff should be trained and empowered. This woman found it easier to just say that she could not do anything. Other than that, the suite, amenities, and public spaces are all top notch. I will return when I’m in Dallas again.
