After returning early from our trip to Italy, our flight from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) cancelled. I rebooked us on a flight from New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA). We made it there in time after an hour-long Uber ride, waited out the delay, and boarded after midnight. We taxied out before returning to the gate as the pilots timed out. The flight was then pushed to the next morning. We were exhausted and needed a hotel. It was now around 1:30 AM and I could not book anything online since it was technically the next day. I called The Westin Flushing LaGuardia Airport and a nice man answered the phone. He had a room for $249 and we hopped into an Uber to get there. The hotel is brand new (it only opened in June) and still has that new car smell. I now have a new favorite hotel near the airport and would gladly return.
Anthony’s Take: The hotel is well designed, modern, and comfortable. It’s one of the most luxurious Westin hotels that I have stayed at in the United States and I loved how convenient it was from the airport. There is a shuttle, but we took Uber back and forth. I did not have the opportunity to check out any of the amenities as we were literally there between 2:00 AM and 8:30 AM. The agent who checked us in was still working when we checked out and was kind on both encounters.
Booking
I booked a Guest Room, 1 King on a “Flexible Rate.” It was $249 per night plus taxes and fees. Rates are pretty reasonable at this property. Marriott did away with award charts a few years ago, but redemptions can be had for between 30,000 and 54,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
We took an Uber Comfort from New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to the hotel and back the next morning. The ride there took around around 10 minutes (it’s around 3.6 miles) and cost $38. Departing, the ride was around $54, but took around 20 minutes.
Location
The hotel is located in Flushing, Queens. It’s not too far from the New York Hall of Science, Citi Field, and Flushing Meadows Corona Park. If we were here longer, we could have had some of the city’s best Chinese food. There are also plenty of stores and restaurants nearby.
We arrived late and the lobby was empty (not surprising around 2:00 AM). This was taken the next morning.
The lobby is modern and feels elegant. There was plenty of seating divided across the large space.
Check-In
As mentioned, we arrived at the hotel around 2:00 AM. The room was ready and the nice agent who took my phone call upgraded us to a Deluxe
Guest Room, 1 King, City View. I was asked if we needed a late checkout and declined it since I knew we had a morning flight. I chose points as my welcome amenity for being Titanium Elite, had our keys printed, and were on the way to grab a few hours of sleep.
The elevators are to the left of reception.
The elevator lobby and hallways on our floor were clean and smelled new.
Deluxe Guest Room, 1 King, City View (814)
There are 244 rooms and suites at The Westin Flushing LaGuardia Airport.
The room opens with the bathroom on the left and the bedroom straight ahead.
The bathroom was a decent size with a vanity that had a single sink, a toilet, and a glassed-in shower.
I liked how bright the bathroom was and that there was some counter space.
A bar of soap in Westin’s signature “White Tea” scent was next to the sink. I miss these being leaf shaped.
Two glasses and a bottle of Body Lotion were on the other side of the sink.
The toilet was to the left of the vanity and well spaced.
The shower took up the right side of the bathroom. Water pressure and temperature were both good.
Bottles of Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash were mounted in the shower.
A robe hung on the wall nearby.
The bedroom was spacious with a king-sized bed, two nightstands, a chaise lounge and table, a large wall unit that served as luggage storage and a desk (along with a chair), and a TV.
Our bags were stolen, but if you have them there is plenty of space here.
The desk provides ample work space and outlets.
The TV was mounted in the center.
A chaise lounge and table were near the window.
A mini-bar area held a coffeemaker, coffee, tea, and condiments.
Bottled water, glasses, and an ice bucket were found below.
A safe was also found here.
An empty refrigerator was on the bottom.
A closet was nearby. It held an iron and ironing board.
A luggage rack was on the side.
Public Areas & Amenities
Amenities include an indoor pool (pictured above), a fitness center, Hinoki Bistro (for sushi and oysters), a departures board, a business center, two conference rooms, and a grand ballroom that can accommodate up to 300 guests. Due to the short time I was at the hotel, the pool and fitness center were closed.
Water was on offer in the lobby.
Departures from New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
Computers and a printer for guest use
The lower level had even more seating.
I loved this huge orchid.
Living walls always draw me in.
Overall Impression:
The hotel is lovely and even more so when thought of as an “airport hotel.” This is a great choice if you need to stay near the airport or want to explore Flushing. I know I will return if the need arises.
