The Time New York – JDV by Hyatt is a boutique hotel in the heart of NYC’s Theater District with Times Square, tons of restaurants, and Broadway shows right outside. The hotel is close enough to all of the action, but feels tucked away on 49th Street. I have long been a fan of Joie de Vivre (JdV) Hotels, which are now known as JDV by Hyatt. These properties are quirky and a nice departure from the standard corporate hotels.
Anthony’s Take: We had a nice two-night stay aside from an initial issue that caused a downgrade due to the suite we were assigned being incredibly hot with no way to lower the temperature. The staff was friendly and both of the suites were nice and spacious. If you need to stay near Times Square, this is a good choice.

Booking
I booked a 1 King Bed Deluxe for $185 plus taxes. The $35 Destination Fee was removed at checkout. The hotel is a Category 6 property and room redemptions range from 21,000 to 29,000 per night.

Transportation to/from the Hotel
We took an Uber Black from New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) it took around 30 minutes for the 9.8-mile ride. It cost $119. Leaving, we rented a car nearby to visit family in New Jersey.
Location
As mentioned above, the hotel is in the Theater District/Times Square and offers easy access to Broadway, Midtown, as well as just about anywhere else you want to go in Manhattan.

When entering the hotel, there was a small lobby. The hallway behind it led to the restaurant and another set of elevators that go to the guest rooms.

The elevator here takes you to registration and some seating.

Check-in
We arrived at the hotel around 6:00 PM. I had applied a Suite Upgrade Award and selected a suite in advance (1 Bedroom King Suite). We were further upgraded to a 1 Bedroom King Suite Deluxe. It was ready when we arrived. The agent welcomed me as a Globalist and explained the breakfast benefit downstairs in Serafina. He also gave me a card for fitness center access at a nearby gym (this is in addition to the hotel’s tiny offering). Late checkout was offered, but we did not need it. There was no mention of the Destination Fee, but this was removed before we had to ask upon checkout. Keys were printed and we went up to our first suite moments after.

I was given vouchers for breakfast. We only ended up eating in Serafina one of the mornings of our stay.

Destination Fee
The Destination Fee was $35 per day plus tax. This was waived for me as a Globalist. I hate these fees and find them to be cash grabs. This one includes:
- Wine & Cheese Hour at LeGrande Lounge from 5:00pm-6:00pm daily
- Bottled water daily (available at the front desk)
- Exclusive daily access to TMPL gym — including fitness classes, boxing studio, sauna and 25-meter salt water pool
- 10% off Guggenheim Museum tickets
- 15% off Central Park Bike Tours
- 20% off Lunch at Serafina daily
- 10% off Dinner at Serafina daily
- $15 off overnight parking at GMC Parking adjacent to hotel
- Access to Digital New York Times

A cart with bottled water was near reception and free for all guests.

The lobby had a few chairs closest to the check-in desk.

The concierge desk was also here.

There was more seating around the corner.

Elevators were down the hall from reception.

The elevator lobby and hallways on our floor were clean and in good repair (they were also dimly lit).

1 Bedroom King Suite Deluxe (812)
There are 193 rooms including 23 suites at the hotel.

The suite opened with a small foyer.

A full-length mirror was hanging here.

A mini-bar area was nearby.

Alcohol, water, wine, and snacks were on top for sale.

A refrigerator was inside the cabinet. It was filled with other beverages for sale.

A small closet was nearby.

The bathroom was next to it. It held a single sink, toilet, and glassed in shower.

The room was pretty narrow, but the vanity had lots of counter space.

A bar of INK & WATER brand soap was on the counter.

A bottle of lotion was on the shelf above.

The toilet was wedged between the vanity and shower with not a lot of room around it.

The glassed-in shower was a good size. Water pressure and temperature were fine.

More toiletries were on a shelf in the shower.

The living room area was outside of the bathroom. It held a couch, chairs, tables, and a TV.

Chairs near the windows.

The TV was mounted to the wall across from the couch.

The bedroom was off of the living room. It offered a king-sized bed, nightstands, a desk and chair, and another TV in the mirror.

The mirror above this desk was the TV.

The closets held a safe, umbrellas, robes, slippers, an iron, and an ironing board. After spending some time in the suite, we noticed that the temperature was dramatically increasing. The room was 78 degrees and getting warmer. Even trying to blast the air conditioning made more hot air come out. We packed up and went back to the front desk for another room. The agent apologized and said that he did not have the same suite available. He downgraded us to a 1 Bedroom King Suite (this is what I originally booked with the Suite Upgrade Award).

1 Bedroom King Suite (1212)
This is the second suite that we were assigned. The temperature was much better in this one. It was almost identical to the slightly larger suite that we had first.

The suite opened with a similar foyer with a full-length mirror.

The living area was nearby with similar furnishings.

A TV was also mounted to the wall across from the couch.

I liked that there was a crow in the living room (random, I know).

The mini-bar offered the same items for sale on the counter and in the refrigerator.

A closet held an umbrella and a luggage rack.

I thought the other bathroom was small, but this one was even tighter.

The vanity still offered a good amount of counter space.

The same INK & WATER brand soap and lotion were also found here.

The shower and toiletries found there were also identical. I forgot to take a picture, but it looked like the one above.

The toilet seemed to have a little more space.

The bedroom looked like the other with a king-sized bed.

A desk was also found here with the TV in the mirror.

This room also had an additional chair.

The closets in the bedroom offered a safe, two more umbrellas, robes, slippers, an iron, and an ironing board.

Breakfast
Breakfast for Globalist members is served in the restaurant on the ground floor. Serafina is a chain of restaurants across New York City and the food is pretty average. The restaurant was almost completely empty during our stay. We ordered two orange juices and two entrees. There was no charge on our folio.

My husband had an omelette.

I had a bagel with lox.

Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel has a fitness center, a restaurant, and some seating in the lobby. The fitness center is in the basement and tiny. The hotel supplements this with access to a local gym.

The fitness center offered some basic equipment and weights.

It did have a Peloton Bike.

Water was on offer.

If this gym is not big enough for you, complimentary access is provided at nearby TMPL.
Overall Impression:
The Time New York – JDV by Hyatt was a good choice in the Theater District. The service was friendly and the suite comfortable. Just watch for the temperature and if it goes haywire, be ready to move.
