I’ve always known the Luxury Collection as one of Marriott’s many brands. It’s also the name of a hotel in New York City. The Conrad rebranded as The Luxury Collection Hotel Manhattan Midtown in June 2024. I had never heard of any hotel with this name until I needed something in the area and booked a on-night stay while in New York on business.
Anthony’s Take: The hotel was quiet and elegant. Its Midtown location worked well for this trip as my dinner was nearby. I was upgraded to a large suite that offered more than enough space for me. The rate that I booked included a $100 food and beverage credit. This did not go too far given in-room dining prices, but I was able to use it for a lunch. I’d stay here again if the rate was good and I needed to be nearby.
Booking
I booked a Junior Suite, 1 Queen, City View on a Marriott STARS rate. It was $458 per night including taxes and fees. This total had a $35 Daily Destination Fee included. I did not mind this fee at this hotel because it was usable for food and beverage. I took advantage of that as well as a $100 credit that was provided from the Marriott STARS rate. I am a travel advisor and can book these rates that are not available without an agent. The cost was the same as if I had booked a “Member Rate Flexible,” but it included some nice additional perks. Reach out to me at anthony.losanno@fora.travel for assistance booking this hotel and others. Marriott did away with award charts a few years ago, but redemptions can be had for between 79,000 and 116,500 Marriott Bonvoy® points.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I took an Uber Comfort from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to the hotel and back the next day to head home. The ride there took around 38 minutes (it’s around 16.8 miles) and cost $118. Departing, the ride was around the same time and cost $127.
Location
The hotel’s Midtown location makes it easy to get to Central Park, Carnegie Hall, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and Radio City Music Hall as well as lots of shopping, dining, theater, and more.
The lobby is small with limited seating in the center and to the side.
The lobby feels more residential than like a hotel.
A small room on the left side held lots of books and some additional seating.
The concierge desk and another couch were to the left of reception.
Check-In
I arrived at the hotel around 2:30 PM. My suite was ready, which I appreciated. I was upgraded from the Junior Suite I booked to a One-Bedroom Suite. I was asked if I needed a late checkout and I declined as I was out the door the next morning around 7:30 AM. The agent explained the $35 Daily Destination Fee as well as the benefits afforded to me through booking the Marriott STARS rate. Unfortunately, I was unable to enjoy the breakfast based on needing to get out of the hotel early. I chose points as my welcome amenity for being Titanium Elite and had my keys printed a moment later.
Daily Destination Fee
The Daily Destination Fee includes the following:
- Daily $35 food and beverage credit
- Daily $15 laundry credit
- Daily enhanced high-speed internet access (Wi-Fi)
The STARS rate inclusions are above.
The elevators are located on the right side of reception.
The hotel has limited art, but I liked the painting near the elevators.
The elevator lobby and hallways on my floor were clean and in good repair.
The hallway design felt elegant with nice woodwork and light fixtures.
One-Bedroom Suite (3507)
There are 562 rooms and suites at the hotel.
The suite opened with a bench and full-length mirror near the door.
The living room was straight ahead. It held a couch, a table and chairs, a TV, and several side tables.
The mini bar was in the corner.
It held a fridge stocked with beverages for purchase (and no room for guest use).
A Nespresso machine, bottled water, coffee, condiments, and snacks for sale were found below.
Two chairs and a table were near the window.
The TV was across from the couch and next to the bedroom door.
The bedroom was to the right of the living room. It held a king-sized bed, two nightstands, and a bench at the foot of the bed.
A TV was on a stand across from the bed.
A closet held a robe, luggage rack, and extra blanket.
The safe was located in a drawer here.
The bathroom was to the left of the closet area. It held a large vanity with a single sink, shelves with lots of towels, a glassed-in shower, and a toilet.
The vanity had lots of counter space.
An assortment of toiletries were on the counter to the left.
Large bottles of Le Chemin by BYREDO brand Body Wash, Hair Shampoo, and Hair Conditioner were on the counter.
A bottle of Le Chemin by BYREDO Body Lotion was on the counter along with an empty soap dish. I’m assuming a bar of soap should have been included, but was forgotten.
A shelving unit across from the vanity held lots of towels and another light-up mirror.
The shower was a good size and offered great water temperature and pressure.
I liked that the toilet was tucked into its own little alcove next to the shower.
In-Room Dining
As mentioned above, I had a $100 credit to use for food and beverage. I had not had lunch, so I ordered Butternut Squash Soup, a Charcuterie Board, and two cans of ginger ale. This cost $104 with tax, fees, and tip. This felt overpriced and I would not have ordered it had I not had the credit.
Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel has a fitness center, a restaurant in the lobby, and the limited seating pictured above. The fitness center is on the small side.
Towels, fruit, and bottled water were on offer.
There was a good amount of space for floor exercises.
A punching bag was in the center of the room. A small room off of the main space held cardio equipment. I did not take a photo as there were multiple people working out at the time.
Overall Impression:
The hotel and the suite were comfortable and elegant even though they were both pretty bland in terms of design. Amenities are limited at this hotel, but fine for a short stay.
