After spending a few days checking out the Christmas markets in Copenhagen, we took an Uber over to Malmö, Sweden for a night in the quaint city at the Story Hotel Malmö – JDV by Hyatt. Malmö blends historic charm with a modern city filled with restaurants and shopping. Many Danes travel across the bridge to shop since the prices are cheaper than those in Copenhagen.
Anthony’s Take: This boutique hotel has a great location along the water that provides easy access to everywhere you’ll want to see in Malmö. While it does not have many amenities, it was reasonably priced and comfortable. Our suite was more than enough for the two of us on a one-night stay.

Booking
I booked a King Bed Junior Suite Ocean View on a “Member” rate. It was $289. The hotel falls under Category 2 with award rates for standard rooms ranging from 6,500 to 9,500 World of Hyatt® points.

Transportation to/from the Hotel
We took an UberXL from the Copenhagen Marriott Hotel (review here) to the Story Hotel Malmö – JDV by Hyatt. It cost around $160 and took 50 minutes for the 25-mile trip. Heading out, we went to Copenhagen Airport (CPH). This took a little less time, but cost a similar amount.

Location
The hotel is located along the waterfront in the city center. It’s easy to get to restaurants, shopping, and sightseeing from the hotel.

Check-in
We arrived at the hotel around 1:00 PM and our suite was not ready. We stored our bags and went out to grab some food and explore. We came back around 4:00 PM and we were all set. The agent checking us in gave us a voucher for breakfast (which we did not have time to use), asked if we needed a late checkout (we did not), and printed our keys. We were on the way to the room a moment later. The reception desk is to the right when entering the lobby. Elevators are directly across from this desk. The building is half an office space and while we were there it was completely empty.

The elevator lobby and hallway were clean and in good repair. This is a small hotel, so the space is limited and the hallways are a bit dark. The agent wrote the wrong floor on our key packet and we figured out that we were actually on another. (Thankfully, not 13 as I am superstitious about the number.)

King Bed Junior Suite Ocean View (1003/1004)
I booked a Junior Suite and was given two connected rooms. This should normally be one space, but the agent said that they opened another room so that we would have two beds and two bathrooms (which we did not need). There are 90 rooms and suites at the Story Hotel Malmö – JDV by Hyatt.

When entering from door 1003, you step into a small hallway with a bathroom to the right. It held a toilet, shower/tub combo, and sink.

The toilet was spaced closed to the bathtub.

The vanity had a single sink with zero counter space. A shelf nearby held tissues and towels.

Bottles of Grown Alchemist Hand Wash and Body Cream were mounted to the wall here.

Tissues and towels filled the shelf along with bath salts.

The shower/tub combo offered decent water pressure and temperatures. I just hate having to shower in a bathtub.

Bottles of additional toiletries were mounted to the shower wall.

Outside of the bathroom was an open closet unit. It offered robes and a hair dryer.

The safe, refrigerator, and glasses were also found here.

The refrigerator had two bottles of water and plenty of space for guest use.

Past the closet area was the combo bedroom/living room. This held a king-sized bed.

Across from the bed was a couch, two chairs, and some tables.

A welcome amenity consisting of some chocolate was on the table.

A TV was on a stand to the side.

I liked that the room came with records and a record player (although I could not get it to work).

A Nespresso machine, coffee, cups, and condiments were next to the couch.

The view was great.

The second room opened with another bed.

A bench lined the wall near the window.

The room also held a table and chair.

A TV was also across from this bed.

A second refrigerator, safe, coffee, and closet area was found near the other door.

A second bathroom was also here. It held a toilet, vanity with a single sink, and shower.

The bathroom was small with the toilet tightly packed in near the shower.

The shower drained into the floor. We did not use this shower and I’m sure it made a huge mess.

More shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were mounted to the wall.

The sink was also set up like the other bathroom with no counter space (except for a shelf next to it).

Bottles were also mounted above the shelf.

Public Areas & Amenities
There are not too many amenities here. A Japanese restaurant is on the top floor. Breakfast is served there in the morning. We were out before we could take advantage of the buffet there. There is no pool, fitness center, or spa here. The hotel has an arrangement with a local gym and guests can go there. During our visit, the hotel was decorated for the holidays.
Overall Impression:
The Story Hotel Malmö – JDV by Hyatt is a great choice when visiting the city. While it does not have amenities, the service was good and the room was comfortable.
