After all of our belongings were stolen, I changed our flights to return to the United States the next day. This meant that we had an early flight out of Silvio Berlusconi Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP). I wanted the most convenient hotel option and the Sheraton Milan Malpensa Airport Hotel & Conference Centre worked perfectly.
Anthony’s Take: The hotel was a great spot to spend the night before heading home. We were feeling down after having lost everything, but the staff was friendly, it offered a Club Lounge, and it was easy to get to our flight in the morning. The hotel offers a pool, spa, fitness center, two restaurants, a business center, and more. You’ll find everything you need here for a stay before flying out.
Booking
I booked a Classic Room, Guest room, 1 King on an award rate. I redeemed 42,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points for the night. It was €234 per night plus taxes and fees if I were to pay cash. Marriott did away with award charts a few years ago, but redemptions can be had for between 34,000 and 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
We walked from Terminal 1 at Silvio Berlusconi Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to the hotel and back the next morning. It’s a short distance and nice to not have to worry about a shuttle or Uber to get to the airport.
Location
The Sheraton Milan Malpensa is the only hotel with direct access to Terminal 1 and is around 30 minutes from downtown Milan. I wouldn’t recommend staying here when visiting the city, but it’s perfect for transit.
The lobby is massive with tons of open seating.
There is no question that the hotel is part of the Marriott Bonvoy® program.
The lobby was quite empty around 8:30 PM when we arrived.
I liked how modern it felt while being a little off (like this was a vision of modernity when it opened in October 2010).
Check-In
As mentioned, we arrived at the hotel around 8:30 PM. The room was ready and the kind agent upgraded us to a Executive Room, Club Lounge Access, Guest Room, 1 King. I was asked if we needed a late checkout and declined it since I knew we had a morning flight. I chose points as my welcome amenity for being Titanium Elite and the agent told us about the Club Lounge. She then printed our keys and we were off to the room.
Elevators are near reception and were quite speedy.
The elevator lobby and hallways on our floor were clean and in good repair.
Executive Room, Club Lounge Access, Guest Room, 1 King (3004)
There are 437 rooms including 58 Club rooms and 21 suites at the Sheraton Milan Malpensa Airport Hotel & Conference Centre.
The room opened with the bathroom closest to the door. It held a vanity with a single sink, toilet, bidet, and glassed-in shower.
GILCHRIST & SOAMES branded toiletries were on the counter.
Complimentary boxed water was also found here.
The toilet and bidet were well spaced.
The shower was a good size. It’s always annoying when the shower door does not fully block the space and water goes on the floor. Water pressure and temperature were both fine.
GILCHRIST & SOAMES branded shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were mounted to the wall.
A full-length mirror was outside the door.
The closet area was nearby. It offered lots of space for luggage (we had none since it was stolen, but would normally find this useful).
Inside the closet was an iron (not common in Italy), robes, and slippers.
A safe was also found here.
The king-sized bed filled most of the room along with two nightstands, a chair, a TV, and a desk.
The was mounted to the wall across from the bed over a cabinet that doubled as a desk and mini bar.
A tea kettle, instant coffee, tea, cups, condiments, and an ice bucket were found here.
A refrigerator below offered snacks and beverages for sale.
Additional glassware was also found here.
The desk was also quite spacious.
A chair was placed near the window.
Not a bad view of the parking lot.
Club Lounge
The Sheraton Milan Malpensa Airport Hotel & Conference Centre offers a makeshift lounge space next to the restaurant. It doesn’t feel very permanent, but it was nice that they offered it.
The lounge was empty when we arrived.
I liked the live plants throughout.
Some snacks and desserts were on offer when we visited. The lounge is open daily from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Doughnuts
Cakes
Muffins
Fruit
Yogurt and milk
Sodas and water
Packaged snacks and condiments
A self-serve coffee machine was available for guest use.
Dinner
We decided to grab dinner at the Monterosa Bar next to the Club Lounge. We were exhausted after a long, sad day and this meal was at least comfort food.
I ordered a burger and fries.
My husband had arancini and a pizza. Everything was tasty.
Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel has a spa, pool, fitness center, Wi-Fi, a bar, an ATM, and two restaurants as well as 18 meeting rooms and a ballroom that can hold up to 1,100 people.
The indoor pool was large and located within the spa. These were closed when I arrived, but the space was open for me to snap a few photos.
Showers near the pool.
Locker rooms were nicely appointed.
Sinks were found here along with showers.
A bathroom was also here.
The spa offers treatments throughout the day.
I’m not sure I’d want a treatment in this glass box.
There was some seating in the spa lobby.
The fitness center was also nearby.
It offered an adequate selection of machines and weights.
An ATM was found in the lobby.
The business center was also found here with a computer and a printer for guest use.
More modern art
Overall Impression:
This hotel was exactly what we needed. While I prefer the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel & Conference Center or the Frankfurt Airport Marriott Hotel (review here) when it comes to airport hotels, we were quite content to rest here before our morning flight.
