I had a conference in Toronto at the end of May. I would have preferred to have stayed once again at the St. Regis Toronto (review here), but the rates were well above company policy. The Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel was also over the daily allowed rate, but hotels across the board were priced over $500 to $700 USD all over the city. I opted for the Sheraton since it was close to the event I needed to be at and one of the more affordable options.
Anthony’s Take: This is a huge hotel with 1,372 rooms and suites. While I was upgraded to a higher floor, the staff as adamant about there not being suites available (despite several showing for sale). The Club Lounge is a gorgeous space and one that I wish I had more time to relax and work in. If you need to be in downtown Toronto, this is a convenient choice and worked well for the summit I was attending.
Booking
I booked a Guest Room, 1 King Bed, Nathan Philips View on a “Member Flexible Rate.” It was $666 per night including taxes and fees. This might sound high, but the city was all booked due to several conferences and a soccer match. Marriott did away with award charts a few years ago, but redemptions can be had for between 35,000 and 59,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I took an Uber Comfort from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to the hotel and back two days later to head home. The ride there took around 43 minutes (it’s around 17 miles) and cost $48. Departing, the ride was around the same time and cost.
Location
The hotel is located downtown with easy access to lots of restaurants, shopping, local attractions, and offices.
This is a big hotel and one that was constantly busy while I was there.
When entering from the valet area you find yourself in a massive lobby with a restaurant closest to the doors.
There are lots of seating configurations spread across the lobby. I loved the atrium garden in the center.
The lobby also offered collaborative spaces and phone booths for calls.
Check-In
I arrived at the hotel around 3:30 PM. My room was ready, which I appreciated. I was upgraded based on my status from the Guest Room, 1 King Bed, Nathan Philips View I booked to a 1 King Bed, Club Lounge Access, Premium Guest Room. I was asked if I needed a late checkout and I declined as I knew I’d be flying early. The agent explained the Club Lounge benefits on the 43rd floor and offered me some water. I chose points as my welcome amenity for being Titanium Elite and had my keys printed a moment later.
The elevators are nearby.
The elevator lobby and hallways on my floor were clean and in good repair.
1 King Bed, Club Lounge Access, Premium Guest Room (4246)
There are 1,372 rooms and suites at the hotel.
The room opened to a small hallway.
A full-length mirror was on the right side.
The bathroom was across the hall. It was small with a tiny vanity, toilet, and glassed-in shower.
The toilet was wedged into the corner.
The vanity had limited counter space.
A bar of Gilchrist & Soames brand bar soap was on the counter along with two bottles of lotion and hand wash.
The shower was a good size. Water pressure and temperature were both fine.
Bottles of Gilchrist & Soames brand shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were in the shower.
The bedroom area was down the hall. It held a king-sized bed, nightstands, a table and chair, as well as a desk, dresser, a wardrobe, and a TV.
I liked the Canadian/Toronto art near the bed.
The chair and table were near the window.
The room offered great views.
The wardrobe was in the corner. It held an iron and ironing board.
A desk and chair were next to the wardrobe. It was a big desk and a good spot to work from.
The dresser was attached on the other side. The TV was on top of the dresser.
The refrigerator was located inside. It was empty for guest use.
The safe was also found there.
A slide-out drawer held the coffeemaker, coffee, cups, and condiments.
Bottled water, glasses, and an ice bucket were next to the TV.
I was hungry as I had not eaten lunch, so I ordered a late meal. This is ordered through a QR code and can be picked up in the lobby restaurant.
I had a poke bowl and some Korean fried chicken. Both were very good.
Club Lounge
The Sheraton has a massive Club Lounge on the 43rd floor. I was granted access based on Titanium status. The Club Lounge offers a hot breakfast buffet (I did not get to experience this), non-alcoholic beverages, evening hors d’oeuvres (I missed these as well), and alcoholic beverages for purchase daily after 9:00 AM.
A desk was staffed to check-in guests.
There were multiple rooms filled with all sorts of seating and plenty of space to work and relax. The views were incredible.
More seating
To the left was a kitchen area with various beverages.
Coffee machines were available for guest use.
Refrigerators held water, juice, and sodas.
A large table was near the kitchen area.
The other side of the lounge held a large, library-like room.
The bar was found here.
Snacks were on offer next to the bar.
Public Areas & Amenities
The Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel offers the Club Lounge and seating shown above, a fitness center, a terrace garden, an outdoor pool, meeting space, multiple retail stores, and two restaurants.
The outdoor pool. I did not get to experience this during my business trip.
Retail stores were located in the lobby. They sold sundries, gifts, jewelry, and some clothing.
The fitness center was a good size and had lots of equipment.
I’m always happy when I see Peloton Bikes (even when I don’t have the time to use them).
Overall Impression:
This was one of the nicer Sheratons that I have stayed in. I found it had everything that I needed, service was good, and the Club Lounge was beautiful. I would return if I needed a hotel nearby in Toronto. I’d choose the St. Regis first, but I’d be happy here if it were too expensive.
