After our time in Hong Kong and Manila, we were off to Cebu for a few days. The island is a great spot for a short beach vacation while in Asia and we found the Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort to be relaxing and well run. This is not what I think of when the Sheraton brand comes to mind in the Unites States. The resort definitely felt more upscale.

Anthony’s Take: The Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort is one of the nicest options in the area. It offers plenty of space to relax between the pool and beach, nice rooms, and good food choices. We’d return if in Cebu.

Booking
I booked a Sheraton Honeymoon, Suite, 1 King, Ocean view, Balcony on a “Member Flexible Rate.” It cost around $392 per night total. Marriott did away with award charts a few years ago, but redemptions can be had for between 30,000 and 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points per night for a standard room.

Transportation to/from the Hotel
A van was sent for us at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). It cost nothing to get to the hotel and took 19 minutes for the 10.7-kilometer ride. Returning we took Grab for $8. It took around equal time to get back.

A driver met us with a sign and led us to the van.

Location
The hotel feels lush and is on the beach. We did not leave the grounds, but there is not much walkable nearby.

The lobby is open air with plenty of seating.

Check-In
We arrived at the hotel around 1:00 PM. Our suite was not ready, but we were graciously given the keys to a Guest room, 2 Double, Courtyard view to use until we could occupy it. The staff was warm and friendly. They immediately made us feel welcome and stayed on top of getting us into what we booked quickly.

We were offered juice as we checked in. Keys were printed for the temporary room and we walked over to it.

Elevators are down the hall from reception or at the opposite end of the resort depending on where you are staying. Our first room was much closer to reception.

The elevator lobby and hallways were both clean and in good repair.

Guest room, 2 Double, Courtyard View (602)
There are 261 rooms and suites at the Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort.

The room opened to a small hallway.

The bathroom was to the left. It held a vanity with a single sink, bathtub, glassed-in shower, and toilet.

The vanity only had one sink, but offered a good amount of counter space.

A bar of GILCHRIST & SOAMES soap was next to the sink. Another was on the side of the tub.

Other amenities were also found there.

The shower offered a good amount of space. We did not use it (no comments to offer on water pressure or temperature).

Bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were inside.

The toilet had its own space as well.

A nearby wardrobe held robes, slippers, and a fire extinguisher.

The safe was also found there.

The bedroom offered two double beds, a nightstand, and a table and chairs (a TV was also mounted to the wall).

The table and chairs were near the balcony.

The TV was on the wall across from the beds.

A cabinet served as a minibar. It held a tea kettle, cups, glasses, tea, coffee, some snacks for sale and a refrigerator.

The refrigerator had a few items that could be purchased and plenty of room for guest use.

The balcony was small, but held a table and chair.

The views were not great from this room. Our suite was ready around 4:00 PM and I went back to the front desk to get those keys.

The agent assisting the second time told me about breakfast for Titanium Elites and also provided some vouchers for free drinks in the coffee shop (located within the lobby). We also got vouchers for kayaks that we did not use.

The elevator was a pretty good walk.

This hallway was also clean.

Sheraton Honeymoon, Suite, 1 King, Ocean view, Balcony (748)
This suite was located on the other side of the resort.

The suite opened with a small foyer.

The bathroom was pretty sizable and located close to here. It spanned the length of the suite and offered a vanity with double sinks, a glassed-in shower, a bathtub, and a toilet.

The amenities found here were the same as the room.

There was also lots of bottled water on the counter.

The bathtub was larger.

The shower was also bigger than the one in the room.

Toiletries were also mounted to the wall.

The toilet had its own space.

A dressing area offered plenty of closet space.

One side had robes, slippers, and flip flops.

These were way too small for us.

The other side offered an iron, ironing board, and safe.

The bedroom was off this space. It held a king-sized bed, a bench, nightstands, chairs, and a TV.

Chairs were in the corners.

The TV was mounted above a dresser.

The living area was near here. It offered a couch, table, and minibar area.

The minibar held a Nespresso machine, a tea kettle, cups, coffee, tea, condiments, and bottled water.

Some snacks were also for sale here.

A refrigerator was below with some drinks and space for guest use.

Drawers held mugs, spoons, tea, and condiments.

A welcome amenity was delivered shortly after we entered the suite. Two bottles of wine and a snack is a nice touch.

The balcony held furniture similar to the other room, but a much better view.

Breakfast
The breakfast buffet was complimentary based upon my elite status. It offered a huge selection each morning and offered both Western and Filipino dishes. Breakfast takes place at 5 Cien (it’s one of four dining outlets on the property).

The buffet is spread out across multiple tables and counters.

Coffee and tea was set up to grab and go.

This Bread and Butter Pudding was phenomenal.

Waffles, pancakes, and French toast were made here. There was a ton that could be added.

There were some other sweets nearby.

Espresso drinks were also on offer.

I had a latte.

A cocoa drink was also being served. In addition to breakfast in this restaurant, I met coworkers from my offshore team for lunch and my husband and I had dinner here one night. The restaurant was consistently good.

Dinner
The second night at the hotel we dined at 5 Cien, but the first night we were excited to try out the MICHELIN-recommended, Japanese-Peruvian restaurant called Dip. We tried multiple dishes and they were all tasty. The service, however, was rather poor. Servers were hard to find and everything seemed rushed.

An amuse bouche that I can’t remember what was in it. I do remember enjoying it. These rotate and will likely be different when you visit.

Hiramasa and Hotate Tiradito

Classic Ceviche

Tiger Prawn Causa

Octopus Anticuchero

Chargrilled Wagyu

Cochinillo Lechon Confit

We also tried a lemonade and a cocktail. The food was great, but as mentioned service was lacking.

Public Areas & Amenities
Amenities include the pool and beach (pictured above), a fitness center, several restaurants, a mini market, a boutique, a spa, and an ATM.

The pools overlook the beach.

Showers were near the pool and beach.

The grounds are pretty open with lots of art throughout.

There were lots of sculptures throughout the property.

The property was still decorated for Christmas.

The mini-market/coffee shop was directly across from reception.

The ATM was near the first set of elevators.

We walked by the spa, but did not use it.

A gift shop sold souvenirs, resort wear and more.

The fitness center was a good size and offered plenty of equipment.

Towels and water were on offer.

Overall Impression:
We enjoyed our time at the Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort and would return if we found ourselves back on the island. It offers everything that you need without having to leave the resort.
