I attended a conference earlier this week in Atlanta. The Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center is conveniently attached to the convention center. While it’s a bit dated, the service was good and suite upgrade was appreciated.
Anthony’s Take: The Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center provides all of the amenities you need while attending a conference here. It also has a Club Lounge, nice fitness center, indoor pool, and more.
Booking
I was booked into a 1 King Bed, Guest Room on a conference rate. It cost $234 for the night plus tax, which is comparable to a “Member Flexible Rate.” The hotel can be booked with Marriott Bonvoy® points (21,000-46,000 points per night) with rates varying since Marriott eliminated its award buckets.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I took an Uber Comfort from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to the hotel. The 22.2-mile drive took 30 minutes and the ride cost $45. I took an Uber Comfort back for a similar price and ride time.
The hotel is a typical convention hotel with a huge, open atrium and hallways that look over the lobby space.
Location
This hotel is next to the convention center and attached to a small mall that is mostly vacant. The mall looks like a set from Stranger Things and has a total 1980s vibe.
Check-in
I arrived at the hotel around 4:00 PM and was informed that I was upgraded to a suite. It was ready. The agent was friendly, and efficient. She explained that the Club Lounge was open for evening snacks and breakfast. With that being included, I selected 1,000 points as a welcome amenity. The agent offered late checkout, but I did not need it. My keys were created and I was off to the suite moments later.
As mentioned, the lobby is wide open and spacious. It features tons of seating, a market, a coffee shop, and a restaurant.
The center area had plenty of seats.
The elevators were near the check-in area.
The hallways overlooked the atrium and were in good repair.
My suite was on the 14th floor and a few doors down from the Club Lounge.
The lobby had just been cleaned.
1 King Bed, Suite (1444)
There are 522 rooms and suites across 13 floors at the hotel.
When entering the suite, there is a half bathroom to the right.
It held a toilet and large vanity with a sink.
The toilet was spaced a good distance from the counter.
A bar of Aveda soap was on the counter. This is the standard brand for Renaissance Hotels and I like it.
There was also some mouthwash and lotion found here.
Outside of the half bath was an ottoman.
A bookcase was filled with decorative objects.
A closet was near the front door. It held a luggage rack, iron, and ironing board.
A small area to the left of the half bath housed the coffeemaker and refrigerator.
The refrigerator was empty.
The Keurig was on the counter with coffee pods and condiments.
Around the corner from this area was a table and chairs.
Another set of ottomans were off to the side.
The living room was large and well furnished. It included two chairs, a sofa, a table, and a large TV.
The bedroom was off of the living room. Inside there was a king-sized bed, two nightstands, a desk, and a chair.
The chair near the window was comfortable and held my suitcase during my visit.
I took a few Zoom calls from this desk.
Another closet held another luggage rack.
The TV was across from the bed.
The safe was found here.
The bathroom was to the right of the bedroom. It contained another vanity, toilet, and combo shower/tub.
Toiletries were on the counter.
Another bar of soap was on the counter.
The tub/shower combo is not my favorite, but temperature and pressure were fine.
Aveda shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were mounted to the wall.
The toilet was to the side.
Club Lounge
The Club Lounge was a few doors down from my suite. It offers evening snacks and breakfast. I checked in on the snacks, but did not have the opportunity to try breakfast.
A desk is right inside the door. This was not staffed during my visit. Across was a partitioned business center.
There was a computer and printer here for guest use.
The lounge offers lots of tables and other chairs.
One side is mostly tables and the other has club chairs.
In the evening, there was a charcuterie board.
Spanakopita was the only hot item.
Cookies were available throughout the day.
At night, additional desserts were put out.
Self-serve beverages were also available all day.
There was also a coffee machine.
At night, a small bar was set up. Alcoholic beverages were sold and not complimentary.
Public Areas & Amenities
The Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center offers plenty of lobby seating, a fitness center, an indoor pool, a mini market (shown above), a bar and restaurant, a coffee shop, and the Club Lounge.
The indoor pool is on the second floor.
The fitness center has a reception area that was not staffed.
There was some random seating here.
The fitness center is large and I loved that it offered Peloton Bikes.
A second room had even more equipment.
Water and towels were on offer.
There is also a steam room (it was out of order).
A sauna is next door.
The coffee shop was open throughout the day in the lobby.
A restaurant was across the atrium.
Overall Impression: The Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center was just what I needed when attending this convention. It had all of the amenities needed and staff was friendly. Elite recognition was good and I’d return for another convention here.
