I had to be in Milwaukee for a dinner and decided to check out the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee. The hotel is conveniently located, but in desperate need of a refresh as it feels quite dated. I was only at the hotel to sleep and loved that it had a proper Starbucks in the lobby.
Anthony’s Take: The Hyatt Regency Milwaukee is well located minutes from Water Street and the nearby Deer District. The hotel has all that you’ll need and mostly caters to business travelers with over 30,000 square feet of event space. My dinner was only a few blocks away and the hotel was a good base for the night. Fixtures and finishes are showing lots of wear and a renovation would make this hotel really shine. The atrium-style lobby feel particularly dated, but could be made to feel more modern with some investment.

Booking
I booked a 1 King Bed with City View room on a “Member Rate.” It was $132 plus taxes and fees per night. The hotel falls under Category 2 with award rates for standard rooms ranging from 6,500 to 9,500 World of Hyatt® points.

Transportation to/from the Hotel
I took an Uber Comfort from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) to the hotel for around $46. It took around 14 minutes for the 7.8-mile ride. The return trip the next morning cost around the same amount.

Location
The Hyatt Regency Milwaukee is located downtown and near everything that you will want to do for business or vacation.

The lobby is divided into several smaller sitting rooms with a bar in the back and a Starbucks flanking the one wall.

There is a good amount of seating for working or relaxing.

I liked the fireplace in this room.

The atrium adds lots of natural light and makes the space feel open.

Check-In
When entering the lobby, you’ll see the check-in desk to the left. I arrived at the hotel around 3:30 PM and my room was ready. The check-in agent informed me that I had been upgraded to a One King Bed High Floor with City View. There were no suites available. He also explained that breakfast was in the restaurant, asked if I needed a late checkout (I did not), and printed my keys. Check-in was quick and I was in my room moments later.

Elevators are toward the back of the lobby.

The hallways open to the atrium. I liked the natural light over the usual fluorescents.

The elevator lobby and hallways were clean, but in need of updating.

One King Bed High Floor with City View (1429)
There are 481 rooms including 18 suites at the hotel.

The room opened with the bathroom to the right and a closet on the left.

The bathroom was on the smaller side with a vanity, toilet, and shower/tub combo (which I hate).

The vanity was large and included a single sink. There was a lot of counter space.

A bar of Pharmacopia brand soap was next to the sink.

A bottle of body lotion was mounted to the wall nearby.

The toilet was situated pretty tightly between the sink and shower/tub.

The shower/tub worked fine with adequate water temperature and pressure.

Large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were on the shelf.

The counter was cracked and the wallpaper peeling in multiple spots.

The closet held a luggage rack, iron, and ironing board.

A mirror was around the corner from the bathroom and closet.

The bedroom held a king-sized bed, nightstands, a table and chair, TV, as well as a desk and chair.

The table and chair were near the window.

The desk was large and had a cabinet attached with the TV on top and refrigerator below.

The refrigerator was empty for guest use.

A safe was also found here.

I took a few video calls from the desk.

A Keurig, coffee pods, cups, water, and condiments were on the desk.

Here is the view from the room.

Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel has a fitness center, two restaurants, a mini market, a Starbucks (pictured above), an ATM, as well as multiple conference spaces and ballrooms totaling 30,000 square feet.

The ATM was in the lobby.

The mini market was to the left of check-in.

The fitness center was a decent size.

There was a lot of equipment and weights.

I liked that there were multiple Peloton Bikes.

Towels and earbuds were on offer.
Overall Impression:
The Hyatt Regency Milwaukee was fine for the night. There is no lounge and the hotel needs updating. Other than that, it served its purpose for this trip.
