I had a conference to attend in Long Beach, CA and opted for the Hyatt Regency Long Beach. Earlier this year, I stayed at the nearby Westin Long Beach (review here) and wanted to try something different. The Hyatt Regency Long Beach spent $30 million on a renovation and the property is beautiful.
Anthony’s Take: The hotel has a great location, beautiful views, and a nice design. I was only there for around 18 hours (and sleeping or on meetings for most of that time), but enjoyed my stay. The staff was welcoming at check in and my room was spacious and comfortable.
Booking
I booked a One King Bed room on a “Member Rate.” It was $206 including taxes and fees. These fees include a $28 Destination Fee that is waived for Globalists. The hotel falls under Category 4 with award rates for standard rooms ranging from 12,000 to 18,000 points.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I took an Uber Comfort from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). It took around 30 minutes to drive the 21.6 miles. The ride cost $110. The ride back was half the price and took around the same time.
Location
The Hyatt Regency Long Beach is within walking distance of the pier, Pike Outlets, Long Beach Convention Center, and lots of restaurants and stores.
The lobby is large and was decked out for Christmas.
There are lots of separate seating areas throughout.
The one wall of the lobby is all glass and offers great views.
Check-In
I arrived at the hotel around 11:00 PM and my room was ready. The agent assisting me was friendly and asked if I needed a late checkout (I asked for 2:00 PM and was granted it). She also told me that I was upgraded to a 1 King Bed Harbor View Corner room. I did not ask about suites as I was tired and did not see any that were available for booking earlier in the day. She handed me a card with all of the Destination Fee inclusions and said that breakfast was in the restaurant (I did not have time to partake). I had my keys a moment later and was off to my room.
The Destination Fee covers the following:
- Daily Premium Internet Access for multiple devices
- 2 Welcome bottles of water per stay
- Unlimited Local Phone Calls for the duration of your stay
- Unlimited Domestic Phone Calls for the duration of your stay
- Daily $10 Food and Beverage credit at the Market|Bar
- Coloring Books and Crayons are available for Kid’s activities
- One Movie Rental $19.99 per stay
- One hour Swan Pedal Boat Rental at the Rainbow Lagoon Park per stay
- Discounts on Adult and Child tickets at the Aquarium of the Pacific
- Buy One Get One Free at the Laugh Factory, located across the street
- 10% discount at Parker’s Lighthouse
- 10% discount at Queensview Steakhouse Restaurants located in Shoreline Village
- 20% discount at Harbor Cruise or Whale Watching at Harbor Breeze Yacht Charters and Cruises
Globalists might be excluded from the benefits based on what the card says. I’m not sure as I did not use any of them.
The elevators are across the lobby and down a hallway.
The elevator lobby and hallway on my floor were clean and in good repair.
Views by the elevators were also impressive.
1 King Bed Harbor View Corner (1406)
There are 531 rooms and suites at the hotel.
The room opened with a bathroom to the right. It contained a vanity with a single sink (along with lots of counter space), a toilet, and a shower/tub combo (I’m not a fan of these).
A bar of Pharmacopia soap was on the counter.
A toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash were also found here.
Pharmacopia body lotion was mounted to the wall.
The toilet was located close to the tub and vanity without too much room.
The shower/tub combo worked fine, but I don’t like showering in bathtubs.
Pharmacopia brand shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were mounted to the wall.
The room held a king-sized bed along with two nightstands.
I liked that a charger was available. The curtains were controlled by the switches near the bed.
A desk and chair were near the window.
The coffeemaker, coffee, condiments, and bottled water were found here.
The desk also held the empty refrigerator.
The TV sat here (facing the bed).
Next to it was a small living area with a couch, chair, and two tables.
The art felt coastal.
The closet held an iron, ironing board, luggage rack, robe, extra blanket, and safe.
My room had a panoramic view of the marina and The Queen Mary.
Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel has a fitness center, multiple event rooms with 35,000 square feet of space, Market (which serves also as a restaurant and bar), pool, and hot tub.
Market sold lots of different food and beverages.
The pool is located outside one floor below the lobby.
There was also a hot tub there.
A CVS vending machine sold all sorts of medication and personal care items.
The fitness center is located off of the lobby.
It offered multiple Peloton Bikes.
There was lots of other equipment as well.
The fitness center offered ample space for stretching and floor exercises.
Water, earbuds, and towels were provided.
Overall Impression:
The Hyatt Regency Long Beach offers a good location, nice amenities, and a beautiful, modern design.
