I had an expiring free night certificate and nowhere to go with only days before it was voided. I decided to grab a night at the nearby Hyatt Place St. Petersburg / Downtown. The hotel is conveniently located for all that you’ll want to do in St. Pete with the St. Pete Pier and lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. We only spent a brief amount of time in the hotel, but I got to get a good sense of the property, overall (and we have stayed here before).
Anthony’s Take: This was not our first stay at this property and it likely won’t be the last. It’s got a great location, the staff was friendly and efficient, and it’s a good budget choice in St. Petersburg.

Booking
I booked a 1 King Bed (With Sofa Bed) room through Hyatt using a free night certificate. If I had paid cash, it would have been $175 per night plus taxes and fees. This hotel falls in the Category 4 redemption bucket, which means that a standard room will cost between 12,000 and 18,000 points.

Transportation to/from the Hotel
We drove from home in Hyde Park in Tampa. It took around 28 minutes for the 22.4-mile drive. We drove home the same route and it took around the same time.

The hotel has its parking next to the entrance.

You can enter the lobby through there.

Location
The area around the hotel has everything you’ll want to see when visiting downtown St. Petersburg. The Chihuly Collection, St. Pete Pier, Museum of Fine Arts, and Dali Museum are all nearby. There are also plenty of restaurants, galleries, and shops to check out.

The lobby is spacious with a good amount of seating.
Check-in
We arrived around 2:00 PM and the room was ready. Like most Hyatt Places, this one had the reception desk with a beverage case to the side. The bar is down the hall (which is different than a lot of locations in this chain). The agent that assisted me was friendly and efficient. She explained that breakfast was in the lobby to the left of the reception desk and offered two bottles of water. I saw a suite available for sale. She said there were none available and could not upgrade me. I did not push it. She offered a late checkout (which I did not need) and printed our keys.

The elevators are to the right of the front desk area.

The elevator lobby and hallways were both clean and in good repair.

1 King Bed (With Sofa Bed) (1001)
The Hyatt Place St. Petersburg Downtown has 175 guest rooms and suites.

The room opened with a fairly large foyer.

The bathroom was to the right. It held a vanity with a single sink, toilet, and glassed-in shower.

The vanity did not offer much counter space. A bar of KENETMD SKINCARE and a bottle of body lotion were next to the sink.

The toilet was situated pretty tightly between the toilet and shower.

The shower was a standard size. Water pressure and temperature were both fine.

Bottles of toiletries were mounted to the wall.

The bedroom was straight ahead. It held a king-sized bed, nightstands, sofa bed, a desk with a chair, and a dresser with a TV mounted above it.

The sofa bed was closest to the bathroom.

The TV and dresser were across from the bed.

The desk was large and offered a good spot to work.

A microwave, coffeemaker, coffee, cups, and condiments were on top of the desk.

An empty refrigerator for guest use was below the desk.

The closet was on the other side of the desk. It held an extra blanket and pillow, an iron and ironing board, and a luggage rack.

The safe was also found there.

Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel offers an outdoor pool (pictured above), fitness center, restaurant/bar, breakfast room, ATM, business center, and beverages for sale in the lobby.

The fitness center was a decent size and offered a good assortment of equipment.

I’m always happy to see a Peloton Bike.

Towels were available there.

The ATM was in the lobby.

The business center was also found there.

The bar was in the far corner of the lobby.

The breakfast room was also there.
Overall Impression:
Hyatt Places are generally the same. I’ve stayed at some with better service and some with diversions in the decor, but you get free breakfast and a comfortable spot. This location offers the usual amenities and a great location in downtown St. Pete.
