Our final stop in January after Hong Kong, Manila, and Cebu was Taipei. I’ve been several times for business and fun. This was my husband’s second trip to Taiwan. We were only there for less than 24 hours and I opted to book us at the Grand Hyatt Taipei. The hotel worked out perfectly and we want to return for a longer stay.
Anthony’s Take: We enjoyed our brief stay at the Grand Hyatt Taipei. The hotel has a gorgeous lobby, great amenities, a nice Grand Club, and nice views of Taipei 101. We’ll return here again. This was the first international five-star hotel in Taiwan and the largest-scale hotel. It’s holding up well since it was opened in 1990.

Booking
I booked a Grand Executive Suite by redeeming World of Hyatt® points. This cost 24,000 points. The hotel is classified as Category 3 and redemptions range from 9,000 to 15,000 per night. The cash rate was around $625, so I found this to be a good value.

Transportation to/from the Hotel
We took an Uber Black from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). It took around 59 minutes for the 47.5-kilometer ride and cost $70. When we left, we went back to the airport, which cost around the same and took about equal time.

Location
The Grand Hyatt Taipei is located in the Xinyi District next to the Taipei 101 skyscraper. There is lots around the hotel and even more just a short Uber ride away.

The Uber pulled into the massive covered entry that leads to a huge lobby.

The lobby feels elegant with tons of marble. There are pockets of seating throughout (I did not take photos as they were occupied).

I liked that parts were open for natural light.

The overall design was quite striking.

Check-In
Reception lines the back wall when arriving at the hotel’s lobby. We arrived around 2:00 PM and our suite was ready. The agent informed me that we had been upgraded to a Grand Executive 101 View Suite. This was the same as the suite I booked, but with a better view. I was offered a 4:00 PM late checkout, but did not need it. She also told us about the Grand Club and printed our keys a moment later.

Elevators are across the lobby.

The elevator lobby and hallways on our floor were clean and in good repair.

Grand Executive 101 View Suite (1534)
The Grand Hyatt Taipei has 850 rooms and suites.

The suite opened with a small foyer.

I liked the art and the live orchid here.

A half bath was near the entrance. It held a sink and toilet.

The half bath was a good size.

A bar of BALMAIN soap was on the counter.

I liked the fancy Toto toilet.

A dining area was straight ahead. It had a table with chairs and a mini-bar.

The dining area was pretty open and filled the hallway between the entrance and living area.

A welcome amenity of cookies and wine were delivered about an hour after we arrived.

I thought these figurines were cute.

The mini-bar offered drinks for sale, but also space for guest use.

Drawers held snacks, glasses, and wine for sale.

Another drawer held paper coffee cups.

The third drawer had tea bags, condiments, and cups.

The Nespresso machine, a tea kettle, and bottled water were on the counter.

The living area was next and it offered a couch, tables, a chair, an ottoman, and a TV.

The TV was mounted to the wall across from the couch.

The views were pretty impressive.

The bedroom was just past the living room. It held a king-sized bed, nightstands, a TV, and a chair. A cot was set up when we arrived, but an employee quickly came to the room, knocked, and took it away. It had been put in the wrong suite.

The chair was near the windows.

A TV was mounted to the wall in between the bedroom and master bathroom.

A dressing room to the side was also quite large. It had robes, an iron and ironing board, and space for luggage.

The safe and slippers were also found here.

The master bathroom was gigantic and nicely appointed. It held double sinks, a shower, a bathtub, and a toilet in a separate room.

I always like having two sinks.

A bottle of BALMAIN lotion was mounted to the wall.

Bars of soap were near the sinks along with bottles of water. It’s advised to use bottled water for drinking and brushing your teeth.

A remote controlled a TV in the corner by the bathtub.

The bathtub was near the windows.

The glassed-in shower was standard size.

More toiletries were mounted to the shower wall.

The toilet had its own spacious room. This was another fancy Toto.

Grand Club
The Grand Hyatt Taipei operates a lovely lounge. It’s not as elaborate as the one in Hong Kong, but is a great amenity for Globalists and those paying for access. It was spacious and provides spreads for breakfast, tea time, and in the evening. There was also coffee and soft drinks on offer throughout the day. We stopped by in the evening, but left before it opened in the morning.

Credentials were checked when entering. I liked that they bounced people in robes and slippers.

Noise was also monitored to provide a nice experience.

There was lots of seating throughout.

We got there as the buffet was being set up.

Once open, it offers a lot of food choices including bread and crackers.

Cheese and meats

Smoked fish and meats

Crudité and salads

Other appetizers

Papadam ingredients

The papadam and toppings were mixed with this pot.

BBQ Pork Quiche

Chinese Grilled Chicken

Veggies

Soup was made to order.

Desserts

Fruit

There were three coffee machines.

Tea

Juice, water, and soft drinks

Wine and liquor were also being served.

Public Areas & Amenities
In addition to the Grand Club, seven restaurants and bars, and meeting space, the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong offers a spa, fitness center, and pool (pictured above).

The fitness center is located on the fifth floor near the spa.

Water and towels were offered.

There was a good amount of equipment.

Overall Impression:
The Grand Hyatt Taipei is a great choice when in the city for fun or business. We had a great stay and will be back.

Looks awfully nice. I’ve only transited Taipei before but should really visit and the GH looks like a winner. On a side note I’m surprised the suite had seemingly everything except a desk.
