I had a dinner to attend in San Francisco this week and spent the night at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco. It had been many years since I last stayed at this hotel and I was looking forward to seeing how it held up. The Grand Club was open to relax in, but all food and beverage options have been pulled from it. Aside from that, my stay was rather quick and uneventful.

Anthony’s Take: The Grand Hyatt San Francisco is conveniently located near Union Square with easy access to most points in the city. The hotel’s lounge should offer some basic amenities and food, but this has all been removed. The staff was friendly throughout my stay and the room was comfortable and clean. I’d stay here again (especially when some of my San Francisco favorites are super expensive). I prefer the gorgeous Grand Hyatt at SFO (review here), but this hotel worked fine for my one-night stay.

Grand Hyatt SF Booking

Booking

I booked a 1 King Bed Union Square View room on a “Standard Rate.” It was $317 including taxes and fees per night. The hotel falls under Category 5 with award rates for standard rooms ranging from 17,000 to 23,000 World of Hyatt® points.

Transportation to/from the Hotel

I took an Uber Comfort from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to the Grand Hyatt San Francisco. The 14.7-mile ride took around 28 minutes and cost $64. The return trip was a similar cost and time.

Location

As mentioned, the Grand Hyatt San Francisco is near Union Square, tons of restaurants and shops, as well as everything else you’ll want to do in San Francisco. It’s well located for both business and leisure trips.

Check-In

The registration desk is located to the right when entering the hotel from the main entrance. I arrived at the hotel around 2:30 PM. I was informed that my room was ready, but that no upgrades were available. The check-in agent also explained that breakfast was in the restaurant, said that the Grand Club was open to use (even though it had no food or beverage), and asked if I needed a late checkout (I did and was granted 3:00 PM without issue). She then printed my keys. I was on my way to the room a few seconds later. Elevators are to the left of the check-in area.

The elevator lobby and hallways on my floor were clean and in good repair.

1 King Bed Union Square View Room (3212)

There are 660 rooms including 29 suites at the hotel.

Grand Hyatt SF 12

The room opened with the bathroom on the left. It was small with a vanity, toilet, and glassed-in shower.

Grand Hyatt SF 13

The vanity had a single sink and a good amount of counter space.

Grand Hyatt SF 14

A bottle of BALMAIN lotion was on the counter.

Grand Hyatt SF 15

There was also a bar of soap.

Grand Hyatt SF 16

The shower was standard fare. The temperature was good, but the pressure could have been better.

Grand Hyatt SF 17

More BALMAIN toiletries were mounted to the wall in the shower.

Grand Hyatt SF 18

The toilet was evenly spaced between the shower and vanity.

Grand Hyatt SF 19

A closet was across from the bathroom. It held a blanket and pillow, a luggage rack, an iron, and an ironing board.

Grand Hyatt SF 21

The bedroom area had tons of natural light. It held a king-sized bed, two nightstands, a chair with ottoman and table, a desk with chair, a refrigerator, and a TV.

Grand Hyatt SF 22

The chair, ottoman, and table were near the window.

Grand Hyatt SF 23

The TV was mounted on the wall across from the bed.

Grand Hyatt SF 24

The desk was also near the window.

Grand Hyatt SF 25

The cabinet below the TV held an empty refrigerator for guest use.

Grand Hyatt SF 26

The safe, a coffeemaker, coffee, condiments, and cups were also found here.

Grand Hyatt SF 27

I loved that switches controlled the shades.

Grand Hyatt SF 28

A mirror was in the corner of the room.

Grand Hyatt SF 29

The view was gorgeous.

Grand Club

The Grand Club was located on the same floor as my room (32). It was open all day, but there are no amenities, food, or beverages inside. I had the space to myself and used it as an office.

Grand Hyatt SF Grand Club Note

The website said that the Grand Club was closed, but it’s open to hang out in.

Grand Hyatt SF 31

The interior is pretty large with lots of furniture, amazing views, and the set-up for a breakfast that is not going to be served.

Breakfast

A breakfast buffet was served in the OneUP Restaurant on the mezzanine level. It’s open for breakfast from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM on weekdays and 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM on weekends. The meal was comped for me based on my Globalist status. The receipt said that gratuity was included and for one it would have cost around $42.

Grand Hyatt SF 38

Free coffee was served for all guests outside of the restaurant.

Grand Hyatt SF 39

The buffet was not huge, but it offered a good variety of options.

Public Areas & Amenities

The hotel has a fitness center (that takes up the 35th floor), a restaurant and bar, the Grand Club, and 30,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

Grand Hyatt SF 55

The fitness center was oddly laid out across the floor.

Grand Hyatt SF 56

It had a Mirror fitness device that was not working.

Grand Hyatt SF 57

Peloton Bikes were a welcome sight.

Grand Hyatt SF 58

Grand Hyatt SF 59

There was a good amount of equipment and machines. I did not photograph the treadmills as they were occupied.

Overall Impression:

The lounge not offering anything was a bummer, but the hotel is nice and conveniently located. Hopefully, the hotel reopens the lounge soon (although many Grand Hyatt locations seem to be shutting these down).
