A quick, one-night trip had me needing to stay as close to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) as possible in order to easily catch a flight the next morning. The Grand Hyatt at SFO was the perfect choice and is now one of my favorite airport hotels in the world. The AirTrain between terminals stops directly at the airport and I found this so much nicer than having to take a shuttle bus.

Anthony’s Take: The accommodations, service, amenities, and design of the hotel are all top notch. I would gladly stay here again and could not believe that I was at an airport hotel. The Grand Club offers snacks, an evening service, and breakfast. Elite treatment is also great here with me being upgraded to a suite without even having to ask. The suite included one of my favorite amenities ever: a plane spotting guide and binoculars. It was a lot of fun watching the planes go by below.

Booking

I booked a Runway View, 1 King Bed room on a “Member Rate.” It was $577 plus taxes and fees per night. The hotel falls under Category 6 with award rates for standard rooms ranging from 21,000 to 29,000 World of Hyatt® points.

Transportation to/from the Hotel

I took the AirTrain after getting off of my flight. The next morning, I rode it again to get beck to the terminal for my departure. The AirTrain was quick and convenient. The stop for the Grand Hyatt at SFO takes you right into the hotel.

Location

As mentioned, the Grand Hyatt at SFO is located on an AirTrain stop at the airport. It’s easy to hop on the highway from here to get to San Francisco or anywhere else in the Bay Area.

Grand Hyatt SFO 1

When you get off of the AirTrain you need to take an escalator down to the hotel.

Grand Hyatt SFO 2

You’ll first come across an outer lobby (there were no employees here).

Head to the left for reception.

Grand Hyatt SFO 4

I liked the stained glass that lined the one side.

Check-In

The registration desk is located straight ahead when entering the hotel from the AirTrain entrance. I arrived at the hotel around 2:30 PM. I was informed that I was upgraded and that my suite was ready. The check-in agent also explained that breakfast was in the restaurant, provided the hours for the Grand Club, and asked if I needed a late checkout (I did not). He then printed my keys. I was on my way to the suite a few seconds later.

Grand Hyatt SFO 12

I liked the orchid on the check-in desk.

Grand Hyatt SFO 13

Drinks were behind the counter, but I was not offered any.

Grand Hyatt SFO 6

The agent also provided me with a card that outlined the offerings and hours in the Grand Club.

Grand Hyatt SFO 7

I was also provided with a breakfast voucher that I did not get to use since I was leaving so early.

Grand Hyatt SFO 8

The lobby is nicely decorated with separate seating areas throughout.

Grand Hyatt SFO 9

I liked these hanging decorations.

The elevators are to the right of check-in past the bar and market.

The elevator lobby and hallways on my floor were clean and in good repair.

Corner Suite (1102)

There are 351 rooms and suites at the hotel.

Grand Hyatt SFO 18

The suite opened with a living room. It contained a couch, bench, tables, and a desk.

Grand Hyatt SFO 19

The desk was a great spot to work from (overlooking the airport).

Grand Hyatt SFO 20

The couch was comfy for the moment I sat on it.

Grand Hyatt SFO 21

A Cabinet was to the right along with a coffeemaker, tea kettle, refrigerator, and safe. A TV was mounted above it.

Grand Hyatt SFO 22

The Nespresso machine, cups, bottled water, coffee, and condiments were all on the counter.

Grand Hyatt SFO 23

A tea kettle and tea were next to the coffeemaker.

Grand Hyatt SFO 24

The safe was below.

Grand Hyatt SFO 25

An empty refrigerator filled the bottom cabinet.

Grand Hyatt SFO 26

The bedroom was past the living room. It held a king-sized bed, tables, a chaise lounge, a TV, and a wardrobe.

Grand Hyatt SFO 27

I loved that the hotel provided a plane spotting guide and binoculars.

Grand Hyatt SFO 28

Grand Hyatt SFO 29

I watched aircraft from Condor and Qatar pass by.

Grand Hyatt SFO 30

The chaise lounge was also comfortable.

Grand Hyatt SFO 31

A TV was on a stand across from the bed.

Grand Hyatt SFO 32

The wardrobe held robes, a yoga mat, an umbrella, an iron, and an ironing board.

Grand Hyatt SFO 33

The bathroom was massive and beautiful. It held a tub, glassed-in shower, vanity with two sinks, and super-fancy Toto toilet.

Grand Hyatt SFO 34

The vanity offered tons of counter space.

Grand Hyatt SFO 35

BALMAIN brand bar soap was on the counter.

Grand Hyatt SFO 36

Other toiletries and a bamboo plant were in the center of the vanity.

Grand Hyatt SFO 37

A full-length mirror was to the right of the vanity.

Grand Hyatt SFO 38

Grand Hyatt SFO 39

The toilet had its own room. I always find Toto toilets to be a hoot. This one had many controls for air and water.

Grand Hyatt SFO 40

The glassed-in shower was a good size. Water temperature and pressure were both good, but the water was hard and took a while to rinse off shampoo and soap.

Grand Hyatt SFO 41

BALMAIN toiletries were also mounted to the wall in the shower.

Grand Hyatt SFO 42

The bathtub sat in front of the window.

Grand Hyatt SFO 43

Grand Club

The Grand Club is a nice addition to the hotel. It offers coffee and soft drinks throughout the day as well as multiple services. I only had time to grab a ginger ale during my visit, but appreciated the space. The lounge is located below the lobby and you need to walk through the restaurant to get there.

Grand Hyatt SFO 44

The door was located straight ahead when entering the restaurant.

Grand Hyatt SFO 45

There is a desk to verify access, but it was unstaffed.

Grand Hyatt SFO 46

When I went around 3:30 PM, I was the only guest there. It was being set up for the evening service.

Grand Hyatt SFO 47

Snacks were there when I first arrived, but put away moments later.

Grand Hyatt SFO 48

Coffee machines and soft drinks are available throughout the day.

Grand Hyatt SFO 53

More soft drinks and an honor bar was on one wall.

Public Areas & Amenities

The hotel has a fitness center, two restaurants, a mini market (pictured above), a departure board, as well as the Grand Club outlined above. It also offers 14,000 square feet of event space.

Grand Hyatt SFO 56The bar near reception was always decently busy.

Grand Hyatt SFO 62

Except for late at night when I returned.

Grand Hyatt SFO 57

The fitness center is located on the lowest level (along with the valet and where you can grab a rideshare).

Grand Hyatt SFO 58

It was a good size and offered lots of equipment. I’m always happy to see Peloton Bikes.

Grand Hyatt SFO 61

Towels, water, and earbuds were on offer.

Grand Hyatt SFO 63

The departure board was near the reception desk.

Overall Impression:

I loved this hotel and will definitely be back when I need to be close to SFO. The service, elite recognition, accommodations, facilites, and design were all excellent.
