On our way home from Puglia, we had to spend the night in Frankfurt. I have stayed at the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel & Conference Center many times and had been wanting to stay at the Frankfurt Airport Marriott Hotel since it opened in 2020. What was once a 1,008-room hotel became two (with 779 rooms for the Sheraton and 233 broken out into the Marriott). The refurbishment looks great and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Anthony’s Take: The hotel is one of my favorite airport hotels. It’s much more convenient if you’re flying on a Star Alliance airline as it’s directly connected to Terminal 1, but even flying Delta from Terminal 2 was pretty easy. The Marriott shares amenities like its fitness center, restaurants, and spa with the Sheraton. The M Club lounge is the former Sheraton lounge space. Either hotel is a great choice when overnighting at Frankfurt Airport (FRA).
Booking
I booked a 1 King Deluxe Guest Room on a Marriott Luminous rate. I am a Fora travel advisor and have access to rates that the average consumer cannot book (if you’re looking for more information, please reach out to me at anthony.losanno@fora.travel). The rate was €239 and included breakfast for two, early check in and late checkout (based on availability), room upgrades when available, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a welcome amenity. This rate was the same as if I had booked it directly with Marriott, but with the perks listed above. If using Marriott Bonvoy® points, a Deluxe Guest room, 1 King, which is a base-level room costs 37,000 to 52,000 per night.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
We arrived on an ITA Airways flight from Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) (review here) and took the shuttle bus over to Terminal 1 and the hotel. We took the bus back to Terminal 2 the next morning for our Delta Air Lines flight to New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) (review here).
Location
The hotel is located within walking distance of Terminal 1. It shares space with the Sheraton as noted above. Signage will guide you from Terminal 1 fairly easily. There are two lobbies and you head to the left for the Marriott.
Check-in
We arrived around 3:30 PM and our room was ready. I had already noticed an upgrade to an Executive Room (located on the same floor as the M Club). The agent told me about the M Club and outlined my benefits as a Titanium member. I could have breakfast in the lounge, evening snacks would be served shortly, and my rate also included breakfast in the restaurant. I’d also receive 1,000 points as a welcome amenity for my elite status. Our keys were coded and she directed us to the elevators across the lobby.
The Marriott’s lobby is gorgeous. It has tons of seating and is a space you’d actually want to spend time in.
The lobby was empty when we checked in, but I could actually see myself working from here.
The furniture all felt new and the space was immaculately clean.
There is a tiny cafe in the lobby, but there was no one working there while we were in the lobby.
The elevator bank is across from reception (these used to be the elevators for the Sheraton lounge and rooms).
The hallways also felt fresh and were kept tidy while we were there.
Executive, 1 King (9245)
There are 233 rooms and suites at the hotel.
The room opens with a bathroom near the door. It held a vanity with a single sink, toilet, and glassed-in shower.
This Works brand (Marriott’s standard) toiletries were on the sink including a bar of soap.
A toilet was well spaced within the room.
The shower was spacious. Water pressure and temperature were both good.
More This Works brand toiletries were found here in large bottles.
A wardrobe was across from the bathroom. It held a robe, iron, ironing board, and safe.
A comfy chaise lounge and table took up one wall.
The bed was next to it.
The king-sized bed was very comfortable.
I liked the table lamp.
The TV was mounted on the wall across from the bed.
A cabinet held the refrigerator (but it was locked).
A Nespresso machine, cups, coffee pods, and condiments were on top.
A desk was closest to the window. It held our welcome amenity (this sparkling wine was also served in the lounge). The label was cute.
The view from the room didn’t provide much to look at outside.
M Club
The M Club lounge is located on the ninth floor. It’s open all day for beverages and candy. It also offers breakfast and light snacks in the evening.
There is a desk upon entering to verify access.
The lounge is broken up into smaller rooms. Each has its own furniture layout and they are designed for different functions. There is lots of seating here.
More seating
A conference table
Tables for dining were near the buffet
A buffet holds multiple cold and hot items in the evening.
Some items are served to order.
There were multiple salads and salad ingredients
There were also several types of cheese
This section had soup and the dishes above.
Various breads and pretzels were available.
Plates and utensils were in the center.
Whole, fresh fruit was on offer.
There is a section with several types of candy. Make sure you find it. Citrus water is also here.
Drawers beneath the buffet held lots of beverages including this one with water.
One held Pepsi products
Another held other soft drinks including ginger ale and my favorite: Bitter Lemon
One drawer held beer
Wine was also available
A coffee machine and tea are options throughout the day.
We returned for breakfast the next morning and the spread was enough for a nice meal. This included breakfast pastries and breads.
Cheese and fruit
Meats, smoked fish, cheese, and more
Cereal
Milk and juice
Yogurt
Fruit
Scrambled eggs
Bacon and sausage
Restaurants
We had dinner at The Eatery Kitchen and Bar located in the hotel lobby. The kitchen had crashed and people were waiting over two hours for food. Thankfully, ours did not take that long. It was a long wait and the food quality was poor. The hotel has several other dining options including Restaurant Flavors (where breakfast is served) and Taverne (which offers authentic German beer hall food). We have eaten in Taverne before and loved it.
We started with what was supposed to be Clam Chowder. It was grainy and weird.
I ordered the Poke Bowl, but only had a few bites as it tasted off.
My husband had the Philly Cheesesteak. It was an interpretation of the classic sandwich and also a bit odd. It was a huge portion, though.
Public Areas & Amenities
The lobby houses a bar, restaurant, and the seating above. The main fitness center is a floor below along with a spa. There is another smaller fitness center located on the ninth floor near the M Club.
There was an unstaffed desk with water and towels outside the smaller fitness center.
The small fitness center on the ninth floor had some equipment.
It also had some free weights and other fitness items.
There is a small sauna located here as well.
The larger fitness center is located one level below the lobby.
This is a large space with lots of equipment.
It has big locker rooms with showers.
The co-ed spa is right outside. This is Germany, expect mixed-gender nudity here.
The steam room was out of order.
There are showers and a sauna located here.
I found the foot bath here odd and am not sure what there real function is in the spa without technicians for pedicures.
Overall Impression: You can’t go wrong with either the Sheraton or the Marriott here. I really enjoyed this stay and this might be my favorite airport hotel. I know where I’ll be if I have another overnight layover at Frankfurt Airport (FRA).

Wait! You booked a “King Mini Fridge” but the fridge was locked? This would bug me a lot. I need my drinks cold in case I wake up in the middle of the night. I don’t want to go to the lounge, even if it’s open. WHY was the fridge locked? Did you get it unlocked? You cannot leave us hanging here!!!
LOL. I didn’t ask to have it unlocked as I was fine for the night.
Looks pretty similar to when I stayed there around when Starwood was consolidating with Marriott. I found the club lounge to be pretty pleasant.
