A quick trip to Charlotte found me needing a hotel in the Queen City for a night this past week. I landed on the AC Hotel Charlotte City Center as it looked new (it opened in 2018), was conveniently located, and the room rate was good compared to others I saw for that night. The hotel worked well and had everything I needed for a quick business trip.
Anthony’s Take: The AC Hotel Charlotte City Center shares facilities with the Residence Inn (it’s located on the upper floors of the building). The hotel is nicely designed and works for both short-term and longer stays. While I was given a bag filled with treats at check-in, I was not provided an upgrade and was given the measly 500 points that this brand offers as a welcome amenity.
Booking
I booked a Guest room, 1 King directly with Marriott on a “Member Rate Flexible.” It was $357 plus taxes and fees for the night. Marriott did away with award charts a few years ago, but redemptions can be had for between 23,000 and 46,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I took an Uber Comfort from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to and from the hotel. It cost around $36 each way for the 7.6-mile trip. It took about 16 minutes to get there and a similar amount of time to return the next morning.
Location
The hotel is around lots of offices, restaurants, and attractions. The NASCAR Hall of Fame and other tourist sites are not far from the hotel.
The building that houses the AC Hotel Charlotte City Center also holds a Residence Inn. When you enter on the ground floor, you take the elevator to the respective check-in levels.
I liked the lower lobby and found the art to be fun.
The elevator lobby is past a security desk.
This was my favorite piece in the hotel.
Elevators took you to the lobby and all guest rooms. The lobby was located on the fifth floor.
There was lots of space to sit and relax tucked in corners around the main reception desk.
This level also had more art scattered throughout.
Check-in
I arrived at the hotel around 2:00 PM and the room was ready. I had done a mobile check-in, but did not get the key. Luckily, there was no line and I had a physical key quickly printed. I was handed a bag that contained a bottle of water as well as some snacks for being a Titanium Elite. No upgrade was offered and I was in a rush, so I did not push it. When I looked a bit later every type of room and suite was available for sale. I was asked if I needed late checkout (I did not) and what I wanted as a welcome amenity (500 points is fine although I wish it was 1,000 points like other brands). I was on my way a moment later.
As mentioned, the building houses two hotels and they share amenities. Elevators were across from reception.
The elevator lobby and hallways on my floor were clean and felt new.
Guest room, 1 King (914)
There are 184 rooms and suites at the hotel.
The room opened with an open closet area to the right. This held an iron, ironing board, safe, and refrigerator.
The safe took up the top shelf.
The empty refrigerator (aside from two complimentary bottles of water) was below.
The bathroom was across the hall. It was on the smaller side, but offered tons of counter space. It also held a single sink, toilet, and glassed-in shower.
The vanity filled an entire wall. Towels and some toiletries were on a cart below. A blow dryer and makeup mirror were in the corner.
A generic bar of soap was next to the sink.
The toilet was spaced nicely away from everything.
The glassed-in shower was a good size. Water pressure and temperature were both fine.
Bottles of Korres brand shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were mounted on the wall.
The bedroom held a king-sized bed, nightstands, a chair, and table as well as a TV and desk.
The chair and table were near the window.
The desk was large and good for taking some video calls.
A coffeemaker, ice bucket, cups, coffee, tea, and condiments were found on the desk.
The TV was mounted next to the desk and across from the bed.
The room offered a mixed view of a roof and some buildings.
The welcome amenity bag was a cute surprise. I ate most of the snacks.
Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel has a fitness center, several restaurants, a rooftop bar, a mini market (pictured above), a business center, and a laundry room for guest use.
The area behind the front desk serves as a business center with computers and printers for guest use.
A bar is found nearby.
The fitness center is located on the seventh floor. It’s on the smaller side, but had a decent selection of equipment.
Towels and water were provided.
The fitness center was empty when I visited.
The laundry room was also on the seventh floor.
Each floor also had a station with ice and a microwave for guest use.
There was also an outdoor pet relief area. I did not get the chance to visit Nuvolé Rooftop TwentyTwo (rooftop bar).
Overall Impression:
The hotel didn’t offer an upgrade, but did provide a fun bag of snacks. The room and common areas were all modern and comfortable. I’d return here when back in Charlotte and in need of a hotel in the city center.
