Hilton has announced an exclusive agreement with YOTEL aimed at expanding its presence in the fast-growing lifestyle hotel segment while introducing a new brand platform within its global portfolio. Under the deal, YOTEL will become the first brand to join Select by Hilton, a newly established collection designed to bring independent, design-led hotel brands into Hilton’s ecosystem while allowing them to retain their distinct identity.
The partnership strengthens Hilton’s global footprint by adding YOTEL’s portfolio of 23 hotels across 10 countries. YOTEL plans to significantly expand its presence in the coming years, with ambitions to more than triple its number of properties. Hilton will support that growth through its global distribution network, technology platform and customer base, while continuing to operate under its asset-light business model.

YOTEL is known for its modern, space-efficient design and technology-driven guest experience, particularly in urban markets. The brand’s rooms feature smart layouts and signature elements such as adjustable SmartBeds that convert from beds to sofas (along with automated luggage storage systems). Through the partnership, Hilton customers will gain access to a new type of stay focused on efficiency, innovation and contemporary design, complementing the company’s broader portfolio of brands.

The agreement also marks the debut of Select by Hilton, a new brand category created to integrate high-quality independent hotel brands into Hilton’s system. Brands within Select by Hilton will maintain their own identity and management while benefiting from Hilton’s distribution channels, operational support and technology infrastructure.
The platform is designed to offer guests more variety while maintaining the consistency and reliability associated with Hilton. Once integrated into Hilton’s network, participating YOTEL properties will be accessible to Hilton Honors members, who will be able to earn and redeem points during their stays. Hilton Honors, which has nearly 250 million members worldwide, offers benefits such as contactless check-in, digital room keys, and exclusive booking perks through Hilton’s app and direct booking channels.

Despite the integration, YOTEL will continue to operate independently and maintain its brand identity, design philosophy, and service style. Launched in London in 2007, the brand has built a reputation for innovative hotel concepts in major cities including New York, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Glasgow, and Singapore. The partnership is intended to increase visibility and demand for YOTEL while preserving the characteristics that define its guest experience.

Without looking it up, how would you describe a lifestyle hotel? From what I’m inferring, I’m getting city hotels with cramped rooms that have few amenities, thereby forcing people into the lobby where the hotel can sell people stuff. That sounds great if you’re 23 and looking to upgrade from a youth hostel. For people who value comfort, quiet, amenities, or solitude it sounds ghastly.
