Hawaiian Airlines announced today that it has three new liveries coming out to celebrate the upcoming release of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch. The live-action version hits theaters on May 23rd and the aircraft are already taking to the skies. An Airbus A330 is already flying, next week an Airbus A321 will takeoff, and a Boeing 717 will be revealed later this month.

Alaska Airlines has had a longstanding partnership with Disney. Last month, I wrote about its latest livery tied to Disney. This one celebrates the ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, at the Anaheim theme park. The aircraft was first revealed this week at Portland International Airport (PDX) before it made its first commercial flight to Santa Ana John Wayne Airport (SNA). The Boeing 737-800 features a livery with Princess Tiana that pays homage to the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure experience at Disneyland. The design took artists more than 2,000 hours to paint. The theme continues on board with kids able to enjoy Tiana’s Bayou Adventure snack pack (it’s for purchase beginning this summer).

Hawaii’s flagship carrier and Disney are showcasing a key theme of the upcoming film: the importance of ‘ohana (family). As Hawaii’s airline, Hawaiian is the perfect partner to illustrate this key part of the culture. Alisa Onishi, Director of Brand and Culture at Hawaiian Airlines, said:

At Hawaiian Airlines, Hawai‘i is our home, and we consider our guests to be our ‘ohana. Our hope is that all who visit our islands feel welcomed from the moment they step onboard, just as Lilo welcomed Stitch. We’re also excited to have Stitch be our new Travel Pono ambassador through an AR experience and as the star of our in-flight video, where he learns valuable lessons on how to be a mindful visitor.”

This summer, Hawaiian Airlines will offer special Stitch-themed experiences. These include:

  • In-Flight Video: Stitch interrupts the carrier’s Travel Pono video spotlighting tips on how guests can visit the Hawaiian Islands responsibly.
  • AR Experiences: Hawaiian Airlines presents “Searching for Stitch” encouraging guests to find Stitch through an interactive digital travel guide throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
  • Co-Branded Merchandise: Exclusive Lilo & Stitch-themed apparel and merchandise will be available onboard select flights and online at LogoStore.HawaiianAirlines.com.

The animated film, Lilo & Stitch and Lilo & Stitch: The Series will also be available to watch on Hawaiian flights.

Anthony’s Take: I always have a soft spot for branded liveries. The new Lilo and Stitch ones are playful and a natural fit for Hawaiian Airlines.
