I’ve carried the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card since it was launched in 2009. It offers 5x on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠, 3x on dining, select streaming services, and online grocery purchases (excluding Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs), and 2x on all other travel purchases. Plus, cardholders receive a $50 annual Chase Travel Hotel Credit. Now, Chase is offering a 60,000 point welcome bonus plus up to $300 in Chase Travel℠ credits after spending $4,000 on qualifying purchases in the first three months after opening the account.
There are several other features of this card worth calling out, including:
Ultimate Rewards
These points are a valuable, flexible currency. They can be redeemed for 1.25 cents each when booking travel through the Ultimate Rewards portal. They’re also transferrable to a host of airline and hotel partners including Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air France-KLM, British Airways, Emirates, Iberia, JetBlue, Singapore Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, as well as Hyatt, IHG, and Marriott.
Travel Benefits & Protections
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card offers no foreign transaction fees as well as the $50 hotel credit for those booked through Chase Travel℠. The card also provides primary auto rental CDW (collision damage waiver) coverage, trip cancellation/interruption insurance, trip delay reimbursement, lost luggage protection, baggage delay insurance, and travel accident insurance.
DoorDash Perks
Through December 31, 2027, the card offers a DoorDash DashPass subscription. DoorDash DashPass provides unlimited deliveries with no delivery fee and reduced service fees for orders $12 and more.
Great Welcome Bonus
60,000 Ultimate Rewards points equals $750 when redeemed for travel through Chase Travel℠. But, the card is also giving you up to $300 in Chase Travel℠ credits. Combined that’s $1,050 of value! It can also offer even more value if transferred to one of the partners above and used to book a ticket in a premium cabin. The annual fee is $95, but that’s a small price to pay for everything this card provides.
Anthony’s Take: If I didn’t already have this card, I would definitely be applying for it now. The welcome bonus and all of the benefits above are great for travelers or anyone looking to earn flexible Chase Ultimate Rewards® points.
