Air Canada is the latest airline to offer a grab-and-go option for lounge-eligible passengers. Premium passengers and elite members who are eligible to access the Canadian carrier’s lounges, but don’t have the time can now take advantage of this convenient option starting tomorrow.
The Air Canada Café™ is open to eligible domestic passengers. They simply need to scan their boarding passes at the eGates and enter. The Air Canada Café is open to Air Canada passengers flying Business Class, Aeroplan 50K, 75K, or Aeroplan Super Elite Status Members, Star Alliance Gold customers, and Aeroplan premium cobranded cardholders.
Amenities of the Air Canada Café™ include foods like warm pistachio cream croissants, mini cheese boards, vegetarian wraps, fresh salads, Montréal-inspired bagels, and smoked meat sandwiches. Self-serve beverages include Montréal-brewed beer, cider, and non-alcoholic options, including locally brewed Gutsy Kombucha, as well as Lavazza specialty coffees and nitro cold brew coffee.
The 2,700-square-foot space also includes 58 seats (each with a power outlet) and custom abstract artwork by Montréal-born artist Melanie Authier.
Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have both rolled this out at select airports in the United States (United has a new one in Houston). Delta has no seating at its grab-and-go locations at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). United has very limited seating in its Club Fly™ locations in Denver International Airport (DEN) (my review here) and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). It’s interesting to me that Air Canada added 58 seats to invite guests to linger.
Jacqueline Harkness, Managing Director, Product & Services at Air Canada, said:
We’ve created a premium experience tailored to the needs of our busiest customers, while celebrating the essence of Montréal’s vibrant café culture. Every detail of the Air Canada Café is designed for productivity and comfort, bringing together efficiency with the warmth and energy that make it a beloved product amongst our customers.”
Anthony’s Take: I love that Air Canada is offering a grab-and-go option. I hope that this rolls out further and that other airlines adopt similar offerings as you don’t always have time for a full lounge experience.
