Frontier Airlines announced big changes today to its product offering in an effort it has dubbed “The New Frontier.” This includes clearer upfront pricing with seats, baggage, and more. It also means the end of change and cancellation fees, which is a customer-friendly move and aligns it with most other US carriers.

The New Frontier will include multiple changes to ticketing, customer experience, and pricing. This includes:

  • Upfront Pricing: New Economy, Premium, and Business options include benefits like no change fees, bags, seat assignments, and more.
  • No Change Fees: Zero change or cancellation fees will be applied to Economy, Premium, and Business fares.
  • Expanded Customer Benefits and Support: Flight credit expiration will be extended to 12 months, Frontier will offer enhanced live phone support, and more.
  • Price Guarantee: Customers who find a lower price elsewhere can receive 2,500 FRONTIER Miles.

Barry Biffle, Chief Executive Officer of Frontier Airlines, said:

Today marks the beginning of a new era for Frontier – one with transparency in our prices, no change fees and the lowest total price. This is ‘The New Frontier’ and we are committed to offering more than the lowest fares – we deliver the best price for all the options you want and the customer support you need, when you need it. No gimmicks, just really low prices and good customer service.”

Frontier will offer four distinct fare options. These include Basic, Economy, Premium, and Business. Each has its own features and benefits.

  • Business: This option offers UpFront Plus seating with additional space including a guaranteed empty middle seat at the front of the aircraft. It also includes a carry-on bag, two checked bags (with an increased 50-pound weight allowance), and first-to-board priority boarding (Board First) that includes guaranteed overhead bin space.
  • Premium: This option offers a premium seat assignment along with a carry-on bag and first-to-board priority boarding (Board First) with guaranteed overhead bin space.
  • Economy: This includes a carry-on bag and a standard seat assignment.
  • Basic: This option includes a personal item. All other amenities and options can be purchased à la carte.

Change and cancellation fees are also being eliminated for passengers who purchase Economy, Premium, or Business bundles. Frontier is also making its travel credits more valuable by extending the expiration to 12 months, adding live phone support for customers within 24 hours of flight time and elite members at all times, and it’s updating the app, website, and other communication channels for a better customer experience.

Anthony’s Take: These are customer-friendly moves by Frontier to better align with American, Delta, Southwest, and United. Customers are spending more for premium experiences and Frontier is trying to capitalize on the trend by bundling to improve passenger experience. I also appreciate the dropping of change and cancellation fees.
