Frontier Airlines is continuing its onslaught of new routes in the wake of Spirit Airlines struggling and cutting back its network. The low-cost carrier announced today that it will launch 22 new routes later this year. This will increase its service across the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America. It will also begin flying to Turks and Caicos’ Providenciales International Airport (PLS) and return to Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS). Introductory fares on some routes start at $19 one way.

This announcement further supports the airline’s commitment to become the leading low-cost carrier in the top 20 US metros. As Spirit retreats, Frontier seems to be bloodthirsty and ready to keep on adding routes to make up the gaps created. United Airlines is also jumping on and adding flights as it flat out said that Spirit might go out of business.

Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design at Frontier Airlines, said:

We are on a mission to increase service domestically and internationally, and in the process redefine air travel by demonstrating that it can be comfortable, convenient and affordable. Whether consumers are planning to explore destinations across the US or to escape to the sunny Caribbean this winter, we can’t wait to welcome them aboard America’s Low Fare Airline.”

Anthony’s Take: Frontier has been brutal in targeting Spirit and quickly adding routes. We’ll see how this progresses as Spirit continues to reorganize.
