Frontier Airlines has added 11 routes to its upcoming schedule. These include flights to/from Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). It has not served either of these cities in years.

All of the flights begin in October and November. The low-cost carrier has not fully loaded these for sale, but they should be available for purchase in the near future. New and returning routes include:

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) (3x weekly; starts on October 11th)
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) (daily; starts on November 4th)
  • Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) to/from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) (1x weekly; starts on October 12th)
  • Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to/from Denver International Airport (DEN) (3x weekly; starts on November 22nd)
  • Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to/from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) (4x weekly; starts on November 21st)
  • Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to/from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) (daily; starts on November 21st)
  • New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to/from Orlando International Airport (MCO) (daily; starts on October 27th)
  • New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to/from Tampa International Airport (TPA) (daily; starts on October 27th)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to/from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) (3x weekly; starts on October 11th)
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to/from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) (daily; starts on November 14th)
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to/from Orlando International Airport (MCO) (4x weekly; starts on November 14th)

It’s interesting to note that Frontier is clearly targeting the hubs of both United Airlines and Delta Air Lines with these flights. Neither carrier is going to take kindly to these additions. I bet we see competitive pricing and potentially more frequencies to drive out Frontier.

Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design at Frontier Airlines, said:

As consumers look ahead to the fall and winter months and make their holiday plans, we are thrilled to once again expand our roster of convenient and affordable travel options. From warm weather destinations such as Southern California, Texas, and Florida or winter sports meccas Utah and Colorado, to popular metropolitan areas like New York, Atlanta and Washington, D.C., there are now even more exciting destinations to choose from when flying Frontier.”

Anthony’s Take: Frontier is taking a swing and we’ll see how this lands. Whenever smaller airlines and low cost carriers enter the Big Three’s hubs it’s not well received.
