American Airlines and JetBlue Airways formed a partnership in 2021 known as the Northeast Alliance. The two airlines closely coordinated their route networks, offered reciprocal mileage earnings, and extended elite benefits to members of both programs. American had been struggling to build its presence in NYC organically and JetBlue fed traffic there so that it could use New York as an international gateway. This sounded good in theory and was in place for two years before a federal judge ruled that it needed to be dissolved. American and JetBlue indicated a desire to try to reconnect at one point, but that is now over and American is even suing JetBlue. To rub salt in the wound, American is also now aggressively marketing to JetBlue’s elite members with a compelling status match offer.
Through June 30th, American Airlines is offering its top-tier Executive Platinum® status to JetBlue Mosaic 3 and 4 members. The status will last for four months once matched. Executive Platinum® is the highest published status in the AAdvantage® program and it comes with a lot of benefits for frequent travelers. To maintain status, members must earn Loyalty Points as follows:
AAdvantage Gold®: 13,000 Loyalty Points
AAdvantage Platinum®: 25,000 Loyalty Points
AAdvantage Platinum Pro®: 42,000 Loyalty Points
AAdvantage Executive Platinum®: 67,000 Loyalty Points
These Loyalty Points can be earned by flying, shopping through American’s portal, or by spending on a co-branded credit card.
Anyone with status is eligible as long as they have not participated in a status match with American in the past two years. If eligible, apply here.
Anthony’s Take: There is some bad blood here and American is going to be even less happy once the partnership with United is announced. If you’re a JetBlue flyer and want benefits with AAdvantage®, match away.
