Spirit Airlines is offering a status match challenge for elite members in seven airline loyalty programs. This is a bit different than past matches in that you do not need to pay a fee. When I did a Spirit status match in 2023, I was given the status outright for the rest of 2023 and then requalified at a reduced rate of Spirit Status Qualifying Points (SQP) within 90 days. Those requirements remain for this one, but without the $99 fee.

Spirit Benefits

Spirit is matching the status of seven airlines’ frequent flyer programs. The tiers and levels that they match to are outlined above along with the benefits that each level offers. In order to maintain status, you must earn 500 SQPs within 90 days of your status match to maintain Silver status or 1,250 SQPs to maintain Gold status. Challenges can only be requested once every two years. Once you meet the requirements, you’ll have status until December 2025. One flight must be booked and flown between December 9th and February 28th. You can register here.

Spirit Bundles

As mentioned above, I did a status match in 2023 and found value in holding Free Spirit® Gold Status. That value has diminished since Spirit introduced its bundled fares as many of the benefits that Gold offers were negated by buying Go Big bundles. I flew enough this year to requalify for Silver status and won’t likely have time to push for Gold. That’s okay though as I will still board first, get a Big Front Seat™, and snacks are free up front.

Anthony’s Take: If you plan on doing any Spirit flying in the next few months and hold a qualifying status level with another program than it makes sense to snag this status match. Spirit is navigating restructuring during bankruptcy, but operations will remain largely the same.
