Hyatt Place has 429 hotels under its flag in 349 cities around the world. One of the benefits most associated with staying at these select-service properties is free breakfast. This may become a thing of the past if a current test at 40 of its US locations is successful in getting guests to pony up for their morning eggs and bacon.

This is currently a trial and plenty of Hyatt Place locations are still offering breakfast on the house to all guests.

Hyatt Place Breakfast

Language on Hyatt Place’s website might suggest that a change is coming. It currently reads: “Free breakfast with your stay at most hotels.”

A Hyatt spokesperson released the following statement:

At the moment, a limited number of Hyatt Place hotels in the U.S.  are piloting new grab-and-go menu options while others are testing a rate plan that allows guests to book a stay that does not include breakfast. World of Hyatt Globalists continue to enjoy a free breakfast at all Hyatt Place hotels globally (when booked through Hyatt channels).

At pilot hotels, guests are not required to book through Hyatt channels in order to book a rate plan that includes breakfast. To book a reservation with breakfast included on Hyatt.com, guests can simply select a “bed and breakfast” room type upon booking.”

It appears that through this test, breakfast costs $11 per guest. Globalists will still receive breakfast for free at all Hyatt Place properties. It’s unclear how Hyatt Place properties will police who is consuming breakfast and if they are entitled to the complimentary meal.

Anthony’s Take: I don’t stay at Hyatt Place properties often and when I do, I rarely consume the free breakfast. I find the quality to be low and the scene is often quite chaotic. This will certainly be a loss for budget travelers and families looking for ways to feed the kids on the cheap. Let’s see if this test rolls out systemwide or is shelved in the future.
