Delta Air Lines flight DL154 had departed from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and was en route to Dublin Airport (DUB). Two hours into the flight, the aircraft turned around after former NFL offensive lineman, Gosder Cherilus, reportedly urinated on his seatmate.

Cherilus played in the NFL for eight years on the Detroit Lions, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The NFL star retired in 2017 after 132 games. He took to Instagram to share his side of the story above. In the post, he blames a four-hour delay and his sleeping medication for the incident.

Massachusetts State Police said:

[The flight returned] because of an unruly passenger who urinated on another passenger on board. Troopers verbally commanded Cherilus to leave the plane, but he became irate and uncooperative. Eventually, Troopers escorted Cherilus to the jet bridge and placed him under arrest for Disorderly Conduct and Disturbing a Flight Crew.”

The Boeing 767 was scheduled to depart at 8:35 PM on August 17th, but didn’t end up taking off until 12:12 AM. According to reports, Cherilus was allegedly arguing with a flight attendant, wanted a different seat, urinated on an elderly passenger, and then assaulted another passenger, stole their seat, and passed out. At this point, the aircraft diverted and Cherilus was removed from the plane. Passengers were booked on alternate flights after the aircraft returned.

Delta said in a statement:

Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end. We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel.”

Anthony’s Take: Sleeping pills have been known to impact many passengers and make them do all sorts of strange things from undressing to sleep walking and even striking flight attendants. This is another example of having to watch what you ingest (prescriptions, alcohol, etc.) when in flight.

What do you think about the odds that he truly had never used the pills before? That just seems wildly improbable. Accordingly I think four words should apply to Mr. Cherilus: Lifetime. No. Fly. List.
