A former JetBlue employee was arrested on Wednesday for calling in a fake bomb threat and leaving a cellphone with an onscreen note that said “explosive device” inside the TWA Hotel at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
The New York Post reports that Dillon D. Vista was terminated by JetBlue during the pandemic. He allegedly left a cellphone in the lobby of the iconic hotel with the troubling message. Several minutes after its discovery, the 32-year-old reportedly called the Port Authority Police Department’s JFK desk from an airport parking lot around 11:00 AM EST and said a cellphone bomb was placed inside of the hotel. A bomb unit swept the hotel and discovered that it was a hoax.
Vista was later arrested at Jamaica Station after police checked surveillance footage and saw him near the hotel and then fleeing the airport on the AirTrain. The former JetBlue employee was upset after his position was eliminated during the pandemic. He did not take it well and it’s reported that JetBlue even sought a restraining order against him. A spokesperson for the Port Authority released a brief statement that read:
We were notified of a suspicious package at the hotel. PAPD investigated, and the incident was cleared at 1:02 PM.”
Anthony’s Take: What a dumb idea. If you’re not happy with your former employer, it’s not a good idea to call in a bomb threat. Any revenge that he thought he was getting will surely be negated by the criminal justice system’s punishment here.
